Hi Steve a bit off topic but to your knowledge are just the blue green chromis coming in ill or is chromis in general. The reason I ask is I purchased a sunshine chromis and he Did not make it through QT. I understand if you prefer not to answer. Thanks

Chromis in general. What I do not know is why. There are many possibilities but most likely not a retailer problem as we are seeing it from various sources.

24g nanocube.

Tank
Lots of rocks with holes, marco rock.
1-2 in of fiji pink sand
MJ900 return (200gph)
Tunze 6015 (450gph)

Filter
Filter floss--> GAC in bag--> refugium ( live rock pieces not rubble/chaeto)--> return

Inhabitants
Bicolor blenny (3in)
Ocelaris Clown (1.5in)
Pistol shrimp
Trochus snails 2x
Nassarius 4x
Dwarf cerith 20-30 (high number, very small and get in the holes of marco)

Husbandry
5 gallon water change weekly
Filter floss changed 2x week
GAC changed monthly

Nitrates <20, currently 5-10.
SG 1.023

Last fish added 2 weeks ago. No amonia or nitrate detectable for last 3 weeks.

I'd like to know about adding rainsford goby or ywg to this setup. Bicolor blenny compatibility and bioload compatibility. I feed spectrum life Thera A pellets and PE mysis shrimp.

I'd like to end up with 3-4 fish total.

A YWG would do fine. Bioload with those 3 fish would also be fine.

Current tank info:
56 gal 40lbs sand, 25ish lbs LR, 10-15 lbs salt safe man made decor
One ocellaris clown
One toby puffer
One coral beauty
small CUC of no more than 60 snails and one hermit crab

Hoping to add some (or all if possible) of the following:
Sailfin Blenny
Six line wrasse or Flasher Wrasse
Small group of pajama cardinals (3)
and/or Kaudrens Cardinal
And maybe some type of mushroom coral or polyps (I know there is a chance my puffer and angel may snack on corals, if one is less risky than others I would love to know, but if you think its not worth the risk I appreciate that opinion as well)

Thank you in advance :)

Current tank info:
56 gal 40lbs sand, 25ish lbs LR, 10-15 lbs salt safe man made decor
One ocellaris clown
One toby puffer Is highly likely to nip the fins of tankmates and is not safe for most invertebrates
One coral beauty
small CUC of no more than 60 snails and one hermit crab

Hoping to add some (or all if possible) of the following:
Sailfin Blenny
Six line wrasse or Flasher Wrasse can be aggressive especially towards other wrasses
Small group of pajama cardinals (3)
and/or Kaudrens Cardinal should be tank bred and only a male/female pair not more. However pick one type of cardinal only
And maybe some type of mushroom coral or polyps (I know there is a chance my puffer and angel may snack on corals, if one is less risky than others I would love to know, but if you think its not worth the risk I appreciate that opinion as well)

Mushroom corals are pretty safe from all fish but polyps are not

Thank you in advance :)

Thank you so much! Very helpful! Mostly my puffer leaves his finny tank mates alone, but he does harrass the snails and hermit quite a bit.

So only one type of cardinal and a pair is better than a group
Flasher wrasse or six line is aggressive?

And thank you for the info on mushroom corals, I like them a lot and think they will someday make a great addition to my tank.

The six line is aggressive, the flasher wrasse is not

I found a LFS that gets possum wrasses once or twice a month. He had one when I went but my tank is too new for a $50 fish. Purple firefish is out, my wife wanted a royal gramma instead.

I am also switching the yasha goby I posted about to a YWG. I have had it for about a week now in my QT system with the gramma. Both are best friends right now hanging out and eating together.

Fish are never friends. They either are indifferent to each other or aggressive towards each other. The friends concept is an attempt to anthropomorphizing animals but it is inaccurate in the case of fish.

I am going to also get a tiger pistol to go with him. When should I add the tiger pistol shrimp?

any time. The shrimp and goby will find each other. Alpheus randall is preferred.

Right now the tank is cycled and has frogspawn, some zoos and mushrooms. Should I add the shrimp now (3 weeks before the goby will be out of QT) or wait until the goby is in the tank?

wait until the goby is in the tank

I read of a guy that built a shrimp 'cage' out of rock in the front corner of his tank. He used a pipe to drop the shrimp onto that corner of the tank and the shrimp made it's home in the cage. When the goby was added he used the same pipe to direct the fish into the burrow and it moved in. Since it was right in the front they could always view the two. I have made such a cage, and I am hopeful the shrimp will move in.

not necessary and not desirable. The shrimp and goby will move around despite any artificial cage.

Thanks!

You are welcome

Okay I'm in the planning stages for the fish going into QT in a few weeks. The tank is a 120G mixed reef tank with mostly SPS and LPS. Still cycling from an upgrade from a 55G. 30G sump, G2 skimmer, running carbon and GFO after cycle.

Here's my list in probable order of addition.

Green chromis
Tank raised bangai cardinal
Neon Goby
Pair of clowns
Whip fin fairy wrasse
Line spot flasher wrasse
Bartlets anthias
Royal gramma
Kole tang
Mandarin after a 1 year maturity of tank and seeding of pods.

Bio load okay? Thanks!

I've revised the above a bit to your suggestions as well as have swapped out a couple.

Green chromis
PJ cardinal
Firefish
Pair of clowns
Line spot flasher wrasse 2 female, 1 male
Bartlets anthias
Royal gramma
Kole tang
Mandarin after a 1 year maturity of tank and seeding of pods

Would I have room for another, similar sized tang or a genicanthus angelfish?

Looks good.

room for sure, but I would get a Genicanthus angel rather than another tang because of eventual territorial imperatives once mature although Kole tangs are less than most others in this regard

I've had a Kole YE Tang in a 20L QT for a few days now and it's quite timid and not eating yet. Otherwise it looks healthy. I was thinking about putting a Kaudern's Cardinal in there to give him some company and maybe show him how to eat. What are your thoughts on that? The Kole is a nice size, about 3". I've also thought about a couple firefish rather than the cardinal.

I doubt that other fish will benefit his acclimation, perhaps even act to the contrary. What are you feeding? Btw, Firefish can only exist in pairs long term if they are a bonded male + female.

I've tried algae wafers, nori, frozen mysis, flakes and pellets. Not all at once of course. He might have eaten some of the nori, it was ripped off the clip, but it was hard to tell.

Unfortunately, this is really well beyond the scope of this thread which is marine fish compatibility. Frozen mysis and nori would be my first choices. Is this QT NSW? Or is there treatment going on?

56 gal column
about 70lbs LR
40lbs sand

2 occelaris clowns
1 firefish
1 dwarf angel - thinking coral beauty
1 sailfin/lawnmower blenny
3 pajama cardinals

CUC- assorted hermits, snails, and a serpent starfish

ASW. No treatment. Had thought about doing prazi but was waiting until he started eating. I'll ask in one of the other threads but I don't think I need to worry yet. Thanks for the input.

purple stripe dottyback
