40G Tank!

40G Tank!

Hello,

I have a 40G tank which is 36 inch long. Currently i have around 43lb of LR and Crushed Coral bed. Running a skimmer rated for 120G, UV also rated for 120G and HOB rated for 75G. Now i have a 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 Emeral crab, Yellow Coral banded and 4-6 snails with 3-4 crabs. I also added some pods too. I also have a Yellow 5 inch Chocolate chip. btw tank is about 3 month old.

So for now i want fishes.

This is my wish list:

1. Flame Angel.
2. Multi color angel. I really want to keep both of according to my fish selection let me know which one is best for me.
3. Copperband Butterflyfish
4. Royal Gramma Basslet
5. Bartlett's Anthias
6. Purple Dottyback
7. Firefish, Purple
8. Powder Blue Tang or Blue tang - I will find a tiny one for sure.
9. a pair of maroon or regular clown fish.

Please let me know what are my options and what are the fishes that i can keep.

Coral Banded Shrimp can take fish and be aggressive towards other shrimp. Chocolate chip star fish are not reef safe and probably not a good idea

So for now i want fishes.

3. Copperband Butterflyfish expert level fish that will be impossible in your sized tank
4. Royal Gramma Basslet
5. Bartlett's Anthias
6. Purple Dottyback very aggressive and will preclude firefish
7. Firefish, Purple
8. Powder Blue Tang or Blue tang - I will find a tiny one for sure. neither is appropriate to your tank no matter how small
9. a pair of maroon or regular clown fish. Maroon clownfish are highly aggressive and will take over your entire tank. A. occellaris might be ok but will try to control about 25 gallons of tank space once they are sexually mature

Please let me know what are my options and what are the fishes that i can keep.

In a 40 gallon tank, those clownfish will be problematical once sexually mature. Also, two dwarf angels, both of whom are grazers, are unlikely to find sufficient food. In addition, no dwarf angel is truly reef safe.

I'm having trouble with indecision.....I don't want to add a fish that I regret.
65 gallon tank
50 pounds? Live Rock
20 gallon sump
ATS
HOB refugium
Glass top + canopy

Current livestock - Ocellaris pair, midas blenny, royal gramma

I'm wondering what the best chance of an addition or two might be.

Would a McCoskeri wrasse be problematic with the royal gramma?
If not, can I add more than one, and if so, how many?
Is wrasse + glass top a bad combo (would netting be better)?

PJ Cardinals - or will they get aggressive if they spawn?

Chromis? how many can live peacefully together?

I'm not asking to add ALL of these, just what would seem best.

1. Flame Angel : 1 or the other Angel. Might nip at corals and clams.
2. Multi color angel : 1 or the other Angel. Might nip at corals and clams.
3. Royal Gramma Basslet : Very hardy, colorful, inexpensive
4. Bartlett's Anthias : Require ample swimming room as do all Anthias
5. Firefish, Purple : Can add 1 or a couple depending on sex of fish and maturity. Pretty hardy.
6. Pair of occellaris clowns. : Will take about 2 years before they're sexually mature, but the most peaceful of of all Clownfish IME.

Of the options you asked about, a pair of McCoskeri might be best

PJ Cardinals - or will they get aggressive if they spawn? This could be done instead of the P. McCoskeri but they are less interesting

Chromis? how many can live peacefully together? One

We provide information about fish. Best to try the clam forum. However, this species of clam is one of the more delicate and I would be reluctant to recommend it for your tank.

Whitetail Dottyback Dottybacks are very aggressive, I would avoid, especially with fairy wrasses


Maybe a Mandarin much later.

Your tank is marginal for a mandarin and fairy wrasses do eat copepods, so I would not recommend

i have a 25 gal with a 10 gal sump. about 15lbs live rock and 15lbs dry rock. 2 hang on the back filters total to about 60 gals of filtration power. a DIY protein skimmer(ordered one, should be here in a week). i have 2 clowns,2 chromis, 1 starfish, 1 feather duster, 6 snails and a yellow tail damsel.

Stocking level is a bit too high. The clowns, once sexually mature will take over the tank. The chromis are likely to come down to one, and the yellow tail damsel can also be aggressive. The starfish is likely to starve sooner rather than later.

I am in the process of covering my 65 gallon with netting (reef safe) that is 3/8".

Will a firefish or dartfish be thin enough to slip through the mesh, or would it be safe to add one?
