Adding to existing family

Adding to existing family

Am I maxed out? I have had several differing opinions on how many fish I can have healthily in my tank. I keep a log of what and when (as well as all water stats and changes) I have added since beginning. I learned the hard way to not over load the bio environment. So I have taken things slower and am not sure what is enough.

I would like to add a Royal Gramma and a Flame Hawkfish. Or any other suggestion. I would like a fish that is red or blue since I don't have any fish these colors now.

Here is my tank stock:
FISH
Sailfin/Algae Blenny (Salarias fasciatus)
3 Kaudern's Cardinal - Banggai (Pterapogon kauderni)
Christmas Wrasse (Halichoeres claudia )
2 Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
Longnose Hawkfish (Oxycirrhites typus)
One Spot Foxface (Siganus unimaculatus)
2 Diamond Watchman Goby (Valenciennea puellaris)
5 Blue/Green Reef Chromis (Chromis viridis)
Yellow Tang - Hawaii (Zebrasoma flavescens)
2 Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis)
2 Cleaning Crabs
Blood Red Fire Shrimp (Lysmata debelius)

NON-FISH
True Bubble Tip Rose Anenome (Entacmaea Quadricolor)
Metallic Green Goniopora
Neon Polyp True Undata - Aquacultured (Montipora undata)
Frogspawn Coral, Thin Branched (Euphyllia paradivisa)
Brain coral Lobophyllia (Lobophyllia hemprichii)
5 Super Tongan Nassarius Snail (Nassarius distortus)
11 Zebra Turbo Snail (Turbo sp.)
Pulsing Xenia- Heteroxenia Polyp (Heteroxenia sp.)

Thank you for all the help to this point. I am loving learning. Having the tank is such a blessing.

Wish you a speedy recovery!

Will plan on only one watanbei, last addition. The yellow prawn and Randall's goby have been in the same tank together for two years, but I will not add the other shrimp goby. On the fence about a damsel, had a starcki for years with a yellow tail without issue.

Could you suggest other fish to include?

That is not an answerable question. While bioload can be an issue, especially if there is a problem, more often it is a behavioral issue. When you put one or more fish in a tank that occupy the same ecological niche, they tend to feel cramped and when fish feel cramped, they try to alleviate that cramping and succeed one way or the other. As fish mature, the perceived territorial imperative increases so what may work in the beginning ends up being an issue.

FISH
Sailfin/Algae Blenny (Salarias fasciatus)
3 Kaudern's Cardinal - Banggai (Pterapogon kauderni) will become at most two over time as they sexually mature
Christmas Wrasse (Halichoeres claudia )
2 Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
Longnose Hawkfish (Oxycirrhites typus) not shrimp safe or very tiny fish
One Spot Foxface (Siganus unimaculatus)
2 Diamond Watchman Goby (Valenciennea puellaris)
5 Blue/Green Reef Chromis (Chromis viridis) will become one or at most two over time
Yellow Tang - Hawaii (Zebrasoma flavescens) once established, will not allow similar sized fish to be introduced
2 Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis) will become lunch for a hawkfish
2 Cleaning Crabs crabs are rarely good, what species?
Blood Red Fire Shrimp (Lysmata debelius) will also become lunch for the hawkfish

after you upgrade, it may be possible, currently it will not work. But I would not try two zebrasoma tangs unless you get two juveniles and introduce concurrently. Once you upgrade, readd the powder blue after the other tangs have been added, but only shortly thereafter

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. I will happily reevaluate any stocking plan if submitted in its entirety rather than incrementally.

will a fire fish do well in a ten gallon? i have around 9 punds of liverock and about an inch of sand.

Yes, very well. Be sure the tank is tightly covered as they are prolific jumpers. Any of the three species are behaviorally similar and will do equally well.

thanks my other question is is it possible to keep another smaller goby, like a clown goby? I have read that firefish will generally not tolerate other firefish.

75 gal pretty low flow, FOWLR for now

Would like to do a mixed softie/lps tank gradually

2 clowns

will a yellow tail damsel be ok?

That is correct. Only bonded pairs of firefish can exist in the same tank for the long term. A clown goby in addition, would be fine.

Black Onyx
True Percula Clownfish
(Amphiprion percula)
Being the only current occupants, they are really very peaceful, also a mated pair.
Thank you, very very much

Yes, they are excellent. If you intend to breed them, an excellent reference is Clownfish by Joyce Wilkerson.

I am running a 46gal bowfront. Current inhabitants are:
(1 pair percula clownfish)
(1 blue/green chromis)
(2 emerald crabs)
(1 coral banded shrimp)
(4 nassarius snails)

Fish I am considering adding:
Royal gramma basslett
White banded possum wrasse
Purple firefish
Kauderns cardinal
Tiger watchman goby
Some type of dwarf angel (Coral beauty- the wife factor)
Flame hawkfish (I am aware of the shrimp issue)

I know that I’ll probably have to wittle this list down some.
I also plan on adding some corals also.
Thanks in advance for all of your great help!

(1 pair percula clownfish)
(1 blue/green chromis)
(2 emerald crabs)
(1 coral banded shrimp) can take fish
(4 nassarius snails)

Fish I am considering adding:
Royal gramma basslett
White banded possum wrasse superb
Purple firefish excellent, but a jumper and needs 1/4 inch holes
Kauderns cardinal should be tank raised
Tiger watchman goby
Some type of dwarf angel (Coral beauty- the wife factor) not coral safe
Flame hawkfish (I am aware of the shrimp issue) excellent but for the shrimp issue

I know that I'll probably have to wittle this list down some.

Does this list need to be wittled down? I am also concerned about the Coral beauty being too big. Thanks for your great help!

The coral beauty (or flame angel if it is a wife factor) will be fine size wise; the concern with either of these fish is that either is a grazer and we normally prefer a larger tank because of this (70 gallons minimum). Your stocking list is a bit large for that sized tank, but behaviorally there should be no problems.
