My reef tank has been doing well for the last few years, so now I would like to try a FOWLR. Tank will most likely be a 220 gal(72x24x30), stocked as follows:

Royal gramma x 1
Sleeper banded goby x 1
Green chromis x 5
Lyretail anthias x 4
Coral beauty angel x 1
Flame angel x 1
Lamarcks angelfish x 1
Emperor angel x 1
Red Sea raccoon butterfly x 1
Harlequin tuskfish x 1
Powder blue tang x 1

I know this tank is arguable for an emperor angel. Is it, in your opinion, just too small to be successful? Emperor angels have always been one of my favorites. I had a few other dwarf angels and butterflies on the list, but as I was typing this, it seemed to be overstocked and excessive...maybe it still is...
I know that green chromis usually kill each other off until only one remains. I am looking for "ditherfish", as Bob Fenner calls them, to cause some chaos and reduce some of the aggression of the bigger species, any suggestions if the green chromis are not the best choice? This is also why I have the lyretail anthias on the list.
This is just a plan at this point (the only fish I actually have at this point is the royal gramma and the lamarcks angel), so I am very happy to hear any advise and thoughts you would have. Thanks,

I'm starting a 40B with a 20L sump. Vertex Omega 130 skimmer, Vortech MP10, 50lbs reef safe rock, 60lbs of live sand and a Lumentek Pro 180 LED fixture. I would like a Flame Angel, and a pair of clowns. Either Occelaris or False Percs. A Goby shrimp pair(Not really sure about this one). Well I really would like to know the max amount of Bioload is recommended for what I have. Oh, will be a mixed reef. LPS and softies only. Thanks.

a 22 gallon tank is barely enough for a pair of A. ocellaris or A. percula.

But I see breeders breeding clowns in tiny compartments, how do they breed in such small places then?

In this sized tank, only the firefish would work (along with inverts)

I would be much happier if it were an 8 foot tank, the tank length is important for tangs and large angels

Emperor angels have always been one of my favorites. I had a few other dwarf angels and butterflies on the list, but as I was typing this, it seemed to be overstocked and excessive...maybe it still is... I would not say overstocked. I always prefer 8 foot or larger tanks with large fish as they make a tank look much smaller than it actually is

your plan is reasonable. However dwarf angels are not necessarily coral safe

commensal pistol shrimp (those that associate symbiotically with shrimp gobies) should not be a problem. However hermit crabs do kill snails.

Also, do Lamarcks angels really get to 9inches or is that absolute max size? I've seen some larger Lamarcks before, but not as large as what Liveaquaria lists them as size-wise. I assume an adult Lamarcks would not do well in a 150 cube (36x36x27), even if it was the largest fish in the tank, correct? P. imperator always wants to be king of the tank. Some folks have introduced two large angels as juveniles into an 8 foot tank and had it work; others have had the Emperor all of a sudden grow up and become boss. Sort of the luck of the draw. In a six foot tank, the odds are IMO poor.

Also, do Lamarcks angels really get to 9inches or is that absolute max size? I've seen some larger Lamarcks before, but not as large as what Liveaquaria lists them as size-wise. I assume an adult Lamarcks would not do well in a 150 cube (36x36x27), even if it was the largest fish in the tank, correct?

Genicanthus do not get large, especially in captivity. They are, however, swimmers, so tank length is more important than tank volume.

Difficult to predict as you have some aggressive fish already. I do not analyze aggressive fish community tanks. We do have an Aggressive Fish Forum.

1 yellow tang In a 75 gallon tank, only one tang, the kole would be fine, the yellow needs a larger tank

1 mandarin dragonette after 9 months maturity
3 anthias a group of anthias needs a larger tank, one would be fine. However, note that anthias need more than one feeding per day
3 chromis will become one over time
