29gal FOWLR/20lbs LS/15-20lbs base rock (seeding w/LR rubble). The tank is a Tetra 29gal set that came w/LED hood, EX30 filter, and heater. I've also added a Marineland Maxi-Jet 400 (1) for circulation.

Just added water & sand today. The base rock will arrive tomorrow and will go in along with the LR rubble that I'm picking up at the LFS on my way home....aaaannnnndd we cycle.

Fish ideas are:

1-Randall's Goby
1-Pistol or Banded Coral Shrimp (still haven't decided)
?-Micro Hermits/Snails (not sure how many. open to suggestions on CUC)
2-Ocellaris Clown (1 Nemo, 1 Black)
1-Small Yellow Tang (I know...already has a home when the time comes).
1-Bulb Anemone

May try some corals later on. I guess I'll play that by ear.

That's it! Any and all feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Darrell

well, with that as an incentive, I would not add fish

haha... Thank you for your advice Steve! I definitely want to have a great outcome with this tank. Do you think it is possible to add an anemone for the clowns to host? Maybe I can bring them down out of the top of the tank. And do you think it is possible for them to breed in this type of setup? Even with one being orange and the other black?

I definitely would no do an anemone in this sized tank. The questions about breeding should be asked as a thread in either our clownfish and anemone forum or our fish breeding forum

Hello,

I am currently cycling a 50 liter (14 gallon) tank, it's a nano reef and so the plans for fish stock are quite simple.

2x ocellaris clownfish a pair of clownfish need a larger tank (about 25 gallons)
1x ?????
Clean up crew
Live rock (already in there)

Still have to decide on the live coral to put in there, I am a beginner so any advice is welcome. Also, where I put the "????" It's because I am not sure on what fish to put there, something aesthetic yet compatible, I know there are many options but I would love to know what you would do.

Thank you for your time

Help pick my next fish

Help pick my next fish

I have a saltwater 28 gallon JBL nano. A few snails, crabs and shrimp in there.

My 3 current fish are a tomato clown, diamond goby and flame angel.

I think four fish is appropriate for that size tank. What do you think I should get?

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations. I am always happy to reanalyze any stocking plan provided tank size is also provided. However, two of the three fish you have now actually need a larger tank so I would not recommend adding any. Tomato clownfish will be very aggressive as they mature.

I currently have a 120L (26 gallon) set-up. My stock is

A pair of clowns (still very small)
A canary wrasse (silver belly)
A purple firefish
A striped sleeper goby (valenciennea longipinnis I think)
Plus an blue tuxedo urchin and clean up crew

Would you say that's reasonable stocking level for this size tank, am I at my limit? I have a skimmer rated for a much larger tank so skimming shouldn't be an issue

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the input.

What is the issue with having an anemone in a 29gal.? And will 1 pistol shrimp be enough for 4 fish? Also, I was wondering what you would suggest for CUC in a 29?

40 breeder with 20 long sump. Total system water is roughly 55 gallons. Have 45 lbs of rock and 45 lbs of sand.

Current occupants include :
Pair of occy clowns
Red firefish
Yellow watchman goby with candy cane pistol shrimp.
10 or so hermits
5 astrea snails
5 nassarius snails
A serpent star
A purple urchin
2 frogspawn, gap, Duncan, button polyps.

Would like to add:
Royal gramma
Blue green chromis
Mckosker or carpenter flasher wrasse

Would that be too much? Would the order of addition matter?

I would definitely not add more fish

Royal gramma fine
Blue green chromis at this point I am reluctant to suggest chromis due to uronema issues
Mckosker or carpenter flasher wrasse needs a larger tank due to activity level

New Tank, New Fish!

New Tank, New Fish!

Greetings! I have a 65 Gallon display tank with some live rock, a 20 gallon sump and a 20 gallon refugium with liverock and cheato. Just starting my cycle this week and planning out the critters to put in it. I am working towards a reef tank down the road. This is what I would like:

Naso Tang or Sailfin Tang
Manderin Dragonet (Green)
Ocellaris/Percula Clownfish (Pair)
Bangaii Cardinals (Pair)

A few Peppermint Shrimp
Snails - How many?
Cucumber - Tiger Tail

I am not sure what other information you may need, I was going to start with my cleanup crew as soon as my cycle is complete. Also, how do I QT the shrimp and snails?

Thanks!

Naso Tang or Sailfin Tang needs a much larger (longer) tank
Manderin Dragonet (Green) once the tank is 9 months mature
Ocellaris/Percula Clownfish (Pair)
Bangaii Cardinals (Pair) tank raised

A few Peppermint Shrimp
Snails - How many?
Cucumber - Tiger Tail

IMO, one week isolation in new seawater matched to your tanks SG

Thanks!

Wow, fast response! Thanks :)

How many snails would you suggest in a tank this size?

Also, do you know of a small fish for a small school I can put in it?

How many snails would you suggest in a tank this size? This thread is only about marine fish compatibility. Just be sure you choose snails or hermit crabs but not both.

Also, do you know of a small fish for a small school I can put in it?

No fish will school or shoal in this sized tank

I have a 165 gallon reef tank with lots of live rock and live sand. I also have a 55 gallon sump/refugium. The tank currently has lps, sps, some softies, a yellow tang, a blue hippo tang, a bangai cardinal, a blue/green chromis, tailspot blenny, and a mated pair of true perc clowns. Currently my water perameters are all great, nitrites 0, nitrates 0, ammonia 0, phosphate 0, ph 8 salinity 1.024, temperature 78 degrees. I would like to add a few more things to the tank and wanted to know what your thoughts were. I know that all of these cannot be added to this tank. That would over crowd the tank by a lot. Is there any of these that you would not recommend or that would not go with what I currrently have in the tank?

Here is the list of posibilities.

Cleaner shrimp
flasher wrasse (probably the carpenter's flasher wrasse)
purple tilefish
green mandarin
One spot foxface
flame angel
copperband butterflyfish
tiger watchman goby
schooling bannerfish

Thank you,
