I've had a 29 gallon set up for about a year-and-a-half. I should have it swapped out with my 50 gallon by the end of February. Everything in the upgrade will be the same except the actual tank. The sump holds 25 gallons so this gives me 75 gallons total. I have ample liverock and will be adding more. I use an RO skimmer rated at 125 gallons, run GFO and GAC, looking to get my hob fuge back online, and hope to get a pellet reactor going soon. I do frequent water changes as well.

The fish I have:

sixline wrasse
fireball angel
ocellaris clown
royal gramma

I feed heavy and they're model citizens as far as getting along although a blue/green chromis disappeared recently so who knows.

I also have zoas, mushroom corals, an emerald crab, and a peppermint shrimp. I plan to get an assortment of hard corals as well.

What would you say to adding a Choati wrasse? I know wrasses don't get a long together but I've seen a lot of people put wrasses together here on RC. Just look at the Marine Fish forum

A Choati wrasse is an expert level fish. The odds of success with this fish, unfortunately is small. In any case the sixline wrasse is going to preclude success with this fish. The people on the Marine Fish forum have varying degrees of experience and have varying fish populations in varying tank sizes and configurations. However, you are more than welcome to use their experience in lieu of mine.

I have a 24 gallon Current Cardiff aquarium with around 24 pounds of live rock
Here are the fish I am hoping to add:
A pair of clownfish
Yellow Prawn Goby
Cardinal fish
Green Mandarin
Would this be a good stocking list?

A green mandarin would not survive in this tank without exceptional effort. Their metabolism would not work without a continuous supply of copepods. A pair of clownfish, once sexually mature (depending on species) will dominate 25-50 gallons of tank space; the prawn goby would be fine with that, the cardinal fish, probably not.

Regal angelfish in a 120?

Regal angelfish in a 120?

Hi,
Upgrading my tank, and am wondering if a regal angelfish would be OK in a 120 Gallon (48 X24 x24). I know they don't swim as much as tangs do, but he will get big.

180G stocking question

180G stocking question

I have a 180 gallon (24" x 24" x 72") with the following livestock:

1. 5" naso tang
2. 3" blue hippo tang
3. 3" yellow tang
4. three pajama cardinals
5. two green chromis
6. Ocellaris clownfish
7. WYG/Pistol shrimp Pair
8. Skunk Cleaner Shrimp

I want to add the following to complete my stocking list

1. Flame angel
2. two royal grammas
3. two more cleaner shrimps
4. diamond goby
5. Green mandarin

my 180 has been established for close to a year. It is a mixed reef that I have been adding more sps in the last 3 months. Everything is growing and looking healthy. I had everything but the yellow tang and hippo tang in a 75 for about a year gallon tank prior to my upgrade for about a year as well.

I know the risks with dwarf angels nipping corals but I really like the bold red colors they have.

Let me know if anyone thinks this is too much to add or even if I could add more on top of these. I would also love to add a coral beauty dwarf angel but I didnt want the flame and beauty to fight. Right now I have zero aggression besides my Ocellaris clownfish but all she really does is chase my chromis around .

Thanks

They are very different behaviorally than tangs. Should be fine. Not reliably reef safe, however.

7. WYG/Pistol shrimp Pair

I want to add the following to complete my stocking list

1. Flame angel biggest coral risk is meaty LPS corals
2. two royal grammas people have done it, I do not know if that is long term stable
3. two more cleaner shrimps
4. diamond goby
5. Green mandarin

Except as noted, should be fine

In your sized tank, two dwarf angels should be fine. Note that this thread is only answered by Reef Central Staff unlike other threads.

Thanks

Hi Steve,

Appreciate your insight and all your stickies. Here is a list for my possible new build:

135 gallon (48x30x22)

- 1 yellow tang
- 1 Powder Brown Tang (suitable)?
- 2 false perc clowns
- 3 anthias (resplendent, Lyretails, or Carberryi's) Any preference?
- Carpenter's flasher Wrasse
- Mccosker's Flasher Wrasse
- 1 additional Flasher/Fairly Wrasse
- Flame Angel (has been good in my 75 so far)
- YWG
- B Cardinal Pair

My biggest concern is the tang interaction and anthias. There is a chance I will build a 150 (72x24x20) instead but my list will stay. There will be a tight lid on the tank.

Thanks again!

Hello again Steve,

I'm finally ready to add a couple small fish to my 20G QT. I was thinking about starting off with a red firefish (N. magnifica) and a Bicolor Blenny (E. bicolor). Any concerns with these being added at the same time?

Hi,
I am planning to buy a read sea max 250 with the following spec:
Capacity: 65 gl, size: 38 x 21 x 26.2”. I will add a 17gl sump to the setting.

Now I wanted to get some advice on the fish and coral list I want to add to this setup. around 1/5 of the aquarium capacity will be used for live rocks and the bottom sand (that is my initial plan about amount of sand/live rocks).

I learned that I should start with the most peaceful fish and at the end I should add the more aggressive ones. But I want to see whether this combination suits a 65gl tank or it will be too big too incompatible and some of the items need to be dropped and replaced with something else.

Fish list:
  • Purple Firefish
  • Yellow Tang
  • Pair of black and white Clownfish
  • Royal Gramma
  • Pajama Cardinals
  • Green Chromis
  • Clarion Angel
  • More fishes here but not sure what till now. If you have suggestion please advice.

Soft Coral:
  • Yuma and Florida Ricordea
  • Assorted Zoanthids
  • Purple Mushrooms
  • Clove Polyps
  • Neon green toadstool
  • An assortment of colorful Ricordeas
  • Zoanthids

LPS:
  • Open Brain Coral
  • Torch Coral
  • Red Flower Pot
  • Fungia (orange)
  • Sun polyp coral
  • Kryptonite candy cane
  • Acanthastrea lordhowensis
  • Acanthastrea echinata
  • Orange Lobo

SPS Coral:
  • Pink Birds Nest
  • Green and Purple Acropora

Cleanup Crew:
I dont know what kind of cleanup crew would be suitable for this setup. Any advice is very welcome.

Thank you.

The tang interaction could be a problem; most favorable situation would be concurrent introduction. The yellow, once introduced will become established and will make introduction of a second tang problematic.

Both fish should do fine together.

Fish list:
  • Purple Firefish
  • Yellow Tang Really needs a larger tank
  • Pair of black and white Clownfish clownfish can associate with corals and damage them
  • Royal Gramma
  • Pajama Cardinals
  • Green Chromis
  • Clarion Angel not coral safe, especially with meaty lps corals, and would not do well with the yellow tang
  • More fishes here but not sure what till now. If you have suggestion please advice.

Steve
