My tank has only been up for 6 weeks and change, so I won't be adding anything yet, I'm just planning a stock list. Tank is 120g 4'x2'x2' w/ 40 breeder sump, I'm building an external ~25-30g refugium primarily designed for plankton generation.
It will eventually be a mixed reef, including Tridacnids, along with a mix of SPS, some LPS, and some softies. I THINK all these fish will be OK. My biggest concern is probably which species of clown, and whether a larger and more aggressive species like Maroons might cause trouble.
Midas or Tailspot Blenny
Orchid Dottyback
Firefish (Most likely purple, possible more than one) long term, more than one would have to be a bonded pair
Blue Sapphire, Neon, or Azure Damsel. Not sure which species yet, will depend on quality of locally available stock. Considering 2 individuals, given I have two large rock formations, but I'm not sure if that'd be pushing it.
Ctenochaetus tang, flavicauda or strigosus depending on availability. Probably one of the last additions, if not THE last.
Orange-back fairy Wrasse, McCoskers Flasher Wrasse, or Solon Fairy
Six-line Wrasse will not like the fairy or flasher wrasses
Pair of clowns: ephippium, clarkii, black ocellaris, allardi, tricincutus, or P. aculeatus. I generally like the appearance of gold strip maroons the best, the neon blue contrasting with the deep red and yellow really does it for me, but I'm worried about their adult size and temperament.
My big questions:
Would one fairy/flasher wrasse and one six line be ok?
six line wrasses can be a a major pain towards other wrasses, especially fairy or flasher wrasses
Would a pair of maroon clowns be complete terrors?
An adult sexually mature bonded pair of GSM clowns will want to control about 55 gallons of tank space and they are super aggressive
Would they be better off without the damsels?
In my opinion, yes.
