Please review the stocking list for my Red Sea Max 250 reef tank (65 gallons). I am about to start my cycle so I am still a few weeks away from adding any fish...I just like to plan ahead.

1 Royal Gramma Basslet

1 Canary Blenny

3 Vanderbuilt Chromis

1 Bartlett's Anthias very marginal in this tank size, note that the should be fed multiple times per day

2 Ocellaris Clownfish
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+27+137&pcatid=137

3 Fire Fish (ALREADY IN QT) unfortunately, unless you have a bonded male female pair, only one firefish will survive long term

Thanks snorvich. I knew better on the firefish but the LFS clerk talked me into getting three...my mistake. hopefully two will bond, if not i will find a good home for two of them

I'll scratch the Bartlett's Anthias and just keep my fish load small to begin with.

What normally happens once territories are established is that the dominant one intimidates the others so the other one hides and starves to death.

Tank is 90 gallon FOWLR (and some mushroom corals) with 30 gallon sump with fuge chamber.

Current fish:

Pair of Ocellaris Clowns
1x One-Spot Foxface
1x Red Headed Solon Fairy Wrasse (aka: Tri-Color Wrasse)
1x Diamond Goby
1x Neon Cleaner Goby (I know that they, unfortunately, have a short lifespan, but I love the little guy)
1x Flame Angel
2x Cleaner Shrimp

Also: Large mixture of snails in DT + about 5 hermits in my fuge with the possibility of adding a strawberry crab in the future, just to eat any food/algae that winds up on the live rock rubble in there.

Intended purchases:

1x Green Mandarin - I'm just waiting to make sure my pod population is super-high before adding, but just to make sure; there won't be any issues between a dragonette and a diamond goby, correct? tank maturity should be 9 months, otherwise fine

I've also been thinking about adding a McCosker's Wrasse - Would this be pushing it in terms of how many fish I'd be keeping (including the dragonette) in a 90 gallon? Also, would there be any issues between this species of Flasher Wrasse and my current (male) Red Headed Solon Fairy Wrasse?

C. solorensis can be aggressive so there may be an issue there

Do you think adding him would be an issue with my current Flame Angel? The Flame has been very shy and peaceful to my other fish since adding him, but he was my supposed to be my final addition besides the dragonette so . The issue is ecological niches. When you add a second fish in the same ecological niche, the tank needs to be larger so the fish's territorial imperative is not compromised.

Thank you!

Thanks for your help!
I happened to go to a LFS today and they had, what I believe, is a FEMALE C. Solorensis. I've read that the female can/may be more aggressive than the male (who is probably my most peaceful fish in all honesty). Would she be okay to add or could there be problems with the female?

Thanks again!

Alright well now I have a new plan/idea. My green clown goby is no longer with us and I will probably be getting rid of my 6 line. Current stock is: firefish, 6 line wrasse, snowflake clown, rods onyx clown.

possible tank mates would be to replace 6 line and green clown goby, please let me know what you think
- hector goby
- rainford goby
- pearly jaw fish
- Red Pygmy Possum Wrasse
- Steinitz Goby
- Aurora Goby
- Zebra Barred Goby
- Diagonal Bar Prawn Goby
- Coral Beauty Angel
- Fridmani Dottyback
- Royal Gramma

Would any of these fish be an issue with one another or the current tank mates?

When adding a female of the same species best practice is to use a plastic acclimation box so the new fish is socially acclimated. Obviously quarantine protocols should still be used.

As I do thousands of these, and my memory is terrible, it is best always to refresh my memory on tank size and maturity as well as stocking list. Thanks!

29 gallon and about 2 months old, the additions would be for the future

With a pair of clownfish and a firefish in your sized tank you have room for two small fish. The ones I would select are Red Pygmy Possum Wrasse and one of the small gobies.

How long would you recommend I potentially keep her in the acclimation box before "letting her loose" (so-to-speak)?
I've seen hang-on (hang-in...?) acclimation boxes but am not familiar with the procedures for them

Hi there! I have a 46 bowfront and I am trying to make a plan to stock in
The future. I have 2 koralia 850gph and a reef octo
Hob skimmer. No sump, 50 lbs rock.

I am looking at these fish

2 ocallaris clown fish
1 flame angel
1 bicolor blenny
1 green mandarin when pods allow
1 bicolor dotty or royal gramma bass
1-2 firefish
Cuc including snails hermits and shrimp.
Assorted basic easy corals.
What do you think?

Thanks!
Bill

Depends. However, I usually start late in the afternoon, then lights out, then in the morning check to see if there is any aggression. If not feed the tank, then release.

1-2 firefish one only will survive

Beautiful! So hopefully less than 24 hours, but basically until the fish in the acclimation box is not showing aggression?

Thank you for all your help! Now I just need to await ID on the pics in my thread to make sure that the fish I found is indeed a female C. Solorensis :D (the store wasn't 100% sure due to the way their orders now come in; It only says "fairy wrasse" or "flasher wrasse" with no latin names :\ )

By the way, I do feed while in the acclimation box. Actually it is the fish in the tank not showing aggression towards the newcomer rather than as you stated. Be SURE that you are introducing the same species; Rudy Kuiter's book Fairy and Rainbow Wrasses is a good one to have if you plan to specialize in fairy or flasher wrasses.

This thread is ONLY about marine fish compatibility. Best to start your own thread in New to the Hobby.

The server he's using for those "pics" is setting off a "malicious website alert" for my antivirus and it's blocking them, FYI.

Thanks again for your help! This will likely be the only other wrasse I add. With the previous advice on the possible aggression with my male C. Solerensis, I more-or-less decided against another one until I found this possible female. :)

5 foot tank, 150 gallons

Mated pair of coral beauties
Mated pair or single falcula butterfly
1m7f anthias (dispar or flavicauda)
1 filefish
Pair of percula clowns
Mated pair of randall's gobies
Mated pair of mandarins
1 tomini tang

I already have a pistol shrimp, I am trying to find out the species (my bad for not knowing) would my tank be big enough to add a tiger pistol or a randall's pistol?

The mandarins and the anthias I'd only get if they are already weaned onto prepared food. I have in any case a large refugium crawling with life.

EDIT:
Looks like the pistol shrimp I have is an Alpheus armatus

Mated pair of coral beauties congrats if you found a mated pair
Mated pair or single falcula butterfly single is fine, mated pair is hard to find
1m7f anthias (dispar or flavicauda)
1 filefish
Pair of percula clowns
Mated pair of randall's gobies congrats if you found a mated pair otherwise only one will remain
Mated pair of mandarins
1 tomini tang

Tank size is not the issue, it is whether or not the two will tolerate each other. Non-commensal pistol shrimps tolerate their own species but it is not determinable if they will tolerate other species

The mandarins and the anthias I'd only get if they are already weaned onto prepared food. I have in any case a large refugium crawling with life. In the case of mandarins eating frozen, that is not relevant. Mandarins eat all of the time, cannot compete for food, so if you have enough copepods for them, you are fine, otherwise not.
