90 gallon 4-foot tank with 20 gallon sump

Current stocking:
3 Pajama cardinalfish
2 Bangaii cardinalfish (mated and currently holding eggs )
2 Ocellaris clownfish
3 Dalmatian mollies
1 Foxface (I know it will eventually be too big for my tank, it was sold to me as a one-spot foxface. I was told the lack of a spot was just a regional color difference"¦)

I would like to add:
1 Kole's tang given that you have a largish grazer (foxface), in a tank that is really marginally sized for this fish, adding a second grazer is risky
1 Royal gramma
1 Flame angelfish (how reef safe are these guys? I have some candy cane and frogspawn)

flame angelfish and for that matter, any dwarf angel, is not reef safe for corals, especially LPS corals. The frogspawn and its relatives are likely ok but not 100% guaranteed

Two Tanks:

One: 225 Gallon Rectangular Aquarium-72x24x30 FOWLR

The other: 150 Gallon Rectangular Aquarium 60x24x24 - Mixed Reef

For 225 gallon FOWLR:
Blueface Angel
Powder Blue Tang
Harlequin Tusk (Australian)
Red Tail Triggerfish
Flame Angel
Goldbar Wrasse, or another Fish-Only type Wrasse

I also have a concern at stocking order here as a number of them are recommended to be added last.

For the 150 Mixed Reef:
Regal Angel (Red Sea) - put in first and allowed to get established
Purple Tang
Kole Yellow Eye Tang
Whipfin Fairy Wrasse
Leopard Wrasse
Pair of Cleaner Shrimp
Black Ice Snowflake Clownfish (Bonded Pair)

Thanks for all that you do! :reading:

The other: 150 Gallon Rectangular Aquarium 60x24x24 - Mixed Reef

For 225 gallon FOWLR: In a six foot tank, this stocking list is iffy especially with aggressive fish. I would prefer not to offer an opinion of success with the trigger in that mix. Otherwise, should be ok as long as the powder blue tang is added last

Powder Blue Tang
Harlequin Tusk (Australian)
Red Tail Triggerfish
Flame Angel

This one is easier.
For the 150 Mixed Reef:
Regal Angel (Red Sea) - put in first and allowed to get established The red sea endemic is more likely to eat and MUST be first
Purple Tang
Kole Yellow Eye Tang
Whipfin Fairy Wrasse can be aggressive; I would prioritize this OR the leopard wrasse
Leopard Wrasse
Pair of Cleaner Shrimp
Black Ice Snowflake Clownfish (Bonded Pair)

Thanks for all that you do! :reading:

Thanks. I will remove the trigger from the 225 wish list. Glad to know that powder blue should be last. I may see if it's possible to move up to 7 or 8 ft if that would be helpful. I will also go with only one wrasse in the 150 as they were lower on the priority list anyway.

Length of tank is incredibly important, much more so than gallonage. It gives fish the perception of larger territory. Especially true for tangs and angelfish.

Well, after checking out the local fish stores (Petco in town, small store out of town 20 minutes away and another store an hour away), my choices are limited.

So what I'm thinking now are
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
Royal Gramma
Yellow Watchman Goby
1 green chromis

Would I be able to substitute a tomato clown for the chromis or will there be too much friction with him and the Ocellaris?

This is a 29G with a 10G sump

I would need tank size and maturity; also if you are considering Petco, you had better have a good quarantine protocol.

Friction? The tomato clown would kill the A. ocellaris. Only one species of clownfish, at most two juveniles or a mated pair

Would two angels work in a 36" tank? I believe they make a 65 that is that long.

Yes. Should work fine. Length is more relevant than gallons. Best, however, to introduce concurrently so one can not establish a territory to protect from "roommates moving in".

Hello,

I have a 55g reef (4ft long) with a 10 gallon sump. 65 lbs live rock and 45 lbs live sand.
I would like to add:

2 Oc. Clowns
1 One Spot Foxface
1 Royal Gramma
1 Six Line Wrasse
1 Flame Angel
1 Bicolor Angel

If I changed from the aforementioned 225 and went with a 240 Gallon Rectangular Aquarium 96x24x24, would it be OK if I had the same livestock listed above and replaced the Red Tail Trigger with one that is typically more docile like a Blue Throat Trigger? I would also like a Naso Tang if I went with the 8 footer. If necessary or advisable for bioload purposes, I would eliminate the large wrasse in favor of the Naso. Thanks, again.

I am in the planning process of my tank and just want to have an idea of what I am going to put into my new tank when the time comes!

Tank Size: 75G
Lighting: Odyssea 48" T5HO Quad Bulb-216W
Filter: Odyssea CFS700 with UV Sterlilizer
Sand: CaribSea Aragonite 2" deep
Heater: AquaTop D2HT 300W Heater
Powerhead: 2 Koralia 1050
Baserock:30%
Liverock:70%

My Hopefully Stocking list

1 Royal Gramma
1 Carpenters Flasher Wrasse
1 Orange Stripe Prawn Goby
1 Randalls Pistol Shrimp
1 Flame Angel
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Saddle Valentini Puffer
1 Starry Blenny

and im iffy but if they will be compatible I would also like to add
1 Tile Sea Star
1 Blue Tuxedo Urchin

Feel free to rip this to shreds and start me over! That's why im posting before my tank is started

2 Oc. Clowns
1 One Spot Foxface needs a much larger tank
1 Royal Gramma
1 Six Line Wrasse very aggressive and will preclude many other tank mates
1 Flame Angel
1 Bicolor Angel this tank is marginal at best for two dwarf angels

there are many species of naso tang. If you mean naso literatus, it needs a minimum of that sized tank (8 foot, 240 gallons) Bioload is fine. The trigger upgrade in this sized tank to a blue throat is preferred but introduce it last.

I never rip anyone to shreds. Not only is it impolite but it accomplishes nothing.

Hi Steve,
You've mentioned many times the Blue Spot Jawfish need cooler temps. Any idea if the collection area makes a difference? I've been impressed with our new LFS and they claim that the variety from Mexico are fine at 'normal' temps.

Thanks

Here's what im thinking

Here's what im thinking

Here is my list of "wants" anyways.
