Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

As for the clown, I heard ocellaris were a good choice and on the less aggressive side.

Do you have any recommendations for something nice and vibrant coloured that would work well that I may have no stumbled across yet?

And am I ok with the 4 fish in my tank size and capacity wise? just do I have an idea on the numbers and size range I have to stay in. I don't want to overstock and stress everyone out!

Correct. A. ocellaris or any of the morphological varieties (designer clowns) would be an excellent choice

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons; however I am always happy to reevaluate any stocking list.

yes. assuming you do not choose any fish which requires territory exceeding your tank size.

What about a blue sided wrasse instead of the orchid? or perhaps a 6 lined wrasse?

First when asking for reanalysis, please always supply complete stocking plan and tank size and maturity. I do thousands of these and have a poor memory. A six lined wrasse is very aggressive, more so than P. fridmani. A blue sided wrasse needs a larger tank.

I have an 80 gallon (48x24x18) reef tank that currently houses a mandarin dragonet, purple firefish and a pink spotted goby. I'm looking at adding a black cap basslet. I've seen her at the LFS and she is super personable. I'm concerned about aggression with the firefish. Also will she compete with the mandarin for copepods? Thanks!

The black cap basslet will definitely compete for copepods and your tank is only marginal for the mandarin without competition (my rough guideline is 9 months maturity with a 75 gallon tank). Possible aggression with the firefish which is extremely shy to begin with.

Advice on adding a purple dottyback

Advice on adding a purple dottyback

I have a 100g community tank with
- 5 chromis
- 1 longnose hawkfish
- 1 diamond watchman goby
- 2 ocellaris clowns
- 2 yellow clown gobies
- 1 carpenters wrasse

and would like to add a purple dottyback rather than an orchid dottyback as I prefer the body shape of the purple but am concerned about their aggressiveness

Any guidance would be appreciated

dottybacks in general are inconsistent with a lot of water column fish but especially fairy and flasher wrasses. P. fridmani sometimes works with flasher wrasses but it is risky.

Any guidance would be appreciated

Okay so I have my cycled 20 gallon with protein skimmer and some new corals from Reef-A-Palooza (GSP's, Daisy Cloves, Mushrooms, and an unknown LPS)as well as an arrow crab, 4 hermit crabs, and 3 snails, and I was thinking if they are not aggressive:

-Two Firefish
-One Black Ocellaris Clown
-Maybe a small neon or watchman goby, maybe.

What do you guys think?

arrow crabs can take fish

I was thinking if they are not aggressive:

-Two Firefish will become one over time unless a bonded male/female
-One Black Ocellaris Clown
-Maybe a small neon or watchman goby, maybe. neon is fine but short lived

What do you guys think? This thread is answered only by Reef Central Staff, in this case, me.

1 blue reef chromis careful they are highly susceptible to uronema
2 purple firefish (bonded pair) how do you know that? It is very unlikely that a bonded pair is available. In any case firefish should be first and angel last
1 flame angel( add last???)

sorry meant one male and one female lol would it be ok to add one purple firefish and add the second a few weeks later? since i want to QT every fish on its own

There is no morphological difference between males and females that we humans can discern. So if you put in two, the odds are strongly that you will end up with one.

ok well dont wan to do that to the fish. so how about this list and in this order? P.S. im not tryig to argue im just trying to gain knowledge

1 purple firefish
1 yellow clown goby
1 blue reef chromis
1 flame angel
