Will I be ok to add a starry blenny with a Midas blenny in the 460? Originally I purchased two Midas blennys both were very small and in my 180 for a couple of months before I decided it wasn't working out so I sold one. I was hoping I might get lucky with a pair. Also is it a good algae grazer similar to the sailfin blenny? If not what about adding the sailfin? I've had one in the past and it had the strangest personality very dog like. My only concern is I've heard they may eat coral. Part of the reason for wanting to add one is to help keep ha under control.

The sailfin blenny is an obligate algae feeder and would be good with no coral issues. Starry blennies are not as good, at least from my perspective. Midas blenny's tend to nip but in your sized tank, it should be fine. I normally recommend only one blenny per tank, but that is for more moderate sized tanks.

I have an 80 gallon reef tank. I currently have 2 ocellaris clowns, a long spine cardinal, a hosakowas sailfin blenny, a purple firefish, and a McCosker's flasher wrass.
Can I add a bandtail and/or blue gudgeon dart fish to the tank?

I am concerned with regards to the firefish. Other fish would be fine.

Hi, Steve,

Question in regards to a 29-gallon "bullet-shaped" tank. I currently have two Ocellaris clowns, a fairly large blue chromis and a yellow watchman goby. I have nassarus snails and a single scarlet hermit crab, but no shrimp.

I am interested in adding a flame hawkfish, I am just not sure about the tank being sufficient size. I am also a little worried about the YWG, as I have heard things scurrying around the bottom are tempting for a hawkfish. While the YWG is 2" long, I would hate for him to be tormented...

What do you think?

I do not see a problem.

Currently Cycling my 30 gallon. Plans for stocking are as follows

-2 Clown Fish
-1 Pistol Shrimp
-1 Yellow Watchman Goby
-And in atleast 1 year when the tank is fully established. 1 mandarin

What do y'all think?

I can tell you now most people would say no to the Mandarin. Because they eat so much they need a larger established tank. Even established, your 30 gallon couldn't provide enough food to feed it.

This thread is answered only by Reef Central Staff. Depends on the species of clownfish. A mandarin would not be sustainable in this sized tank

I currently have a bonded pair of clowns, a bonded pair of Red Sea Harlequin Filefish, and a Blotchy Anthias in my 100g. I'm wanting to add 2-3 fairy wrasses and was thinking of the following:

1. Lineatus Fairy (possibly M/F pair)
2. Cook Island Scott's Fairy (possibly M/F pair)

I would not get two pairs, only one or the other.

Do you see any issues and would you recommend one pair over the other?

Thanks - much appreciated.

Thanks Steve.

Instead of a Scott's what are your thoughts if I introduce one or two of the following:

1. Red Velvet Fairy
2. Orange Back Fairy
3. Linespot Flasher
4. Golden Rhomboidalis

Thanks again.

I have a 125 gallon reef tank that's approaching 2 years old.

Current Fish:
Sunrise Dottyback
Banggai Cardinal
Horseface/Lipstick Blenny
Copperband Butterfly
Yellow Tang
Blue Throat Trigger
2 Ocellaris Clown fish. They stay in the back corner and only come out during feeding.

We also have a 39 gallon FOWLR tank that has a pair of Clarkii clowns and sebae anemone.

Were thinking about shutting down the 39 gallon tank and moving the Clarkii clowns and sebae to the 125 gallon reef tank. Any chance that the Clarkii and Ocellaris clowns will get along?

Thank you!
