My tank size is 55 gal. Not sure what you mean by stocking plan in total.

That means I expect you to research what fish you are interested in and come up with what you feel is a reasonable stocking plan for your 55 gallon tank. Also indicate whether you plan on a FOWLR or reef type tank.

180g mixed reef
Blue Tang
Yellow Tang
Sailfin Tang
Firefish
2 Ocellaris Clowns
Foxface Lo (fed a lot with plenty of nori/caulerpa in tank)
Green Mandarin (55g and 10g reefs with plenty of pods if I really need to bring more in, 180pounds of rock)
4 of a schooling fish (green chromis?)
1 Diamond Watchman Goby
1 Pistol Shrimp
1 Flame Angelfish
1 Whip-Fin Fairy Wrasse
1 cleaner shrimp
2 peppermint shrimp
2 coral banded shrimp

180g mixed reef
Blue Tang needs a larger tank
Yellow Tang
Sailfin Tang needs a larger tank

In a six foot tank, it is unlikely to mix four grazers including three tangs long term. Tank length is much more important than tank volume

Firefish introduce early
2 Ocellaris Clowns
Foxface Lo (fed a lot with plenty of nori/caulerpa in tank)
Green Mandarin (55g and 10g reefs with plenty of pods if I really need to bring more in, 180pounds of rock)
4 of a schooling fish (green chromis?) no fish will school in this size tank; anthias will shoal; chromis will reduce their number to one over time
1 Diamond Watchman Goby
1 Pistol Shrimp
1 Flame Angelfish
1 Whip-Fin Fairy Wrasse on the aggressive side
1 cleaner shrimp
2 peppermint shrimp
2 coral banded shrimp for two, must be a bonded pair; they can take fish

Help For A Noob

Help For A Noob

Hey guys,
This is my first post here and I was wondering on what fish I should get.
My (future) setup:
75 g tank
Fluval 205 canister filter
Hydro wave maker
Marineland double led 48" lights

As you can see it is not very complete. I am planning on a fowler tank, with "lots" of small fish, but I am open to any suggestion or criticism. If you think you can help me pick out some fish, additions/omittions of equipment, that would be great. Thanks for the help!!!

While this thread is about marine fish compatibility, I do not provide suggestions or recommendations for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that you need to develop research skills. However, if you provide a stocking list as well as tank size and maturity, I will be happy to analyze your plan for compatibility with each other and with the environment you will be providing. One source would be the Marine fish section of one of our sponsors, Dr. Foster and Smith Live Aquaria. That can be found here.

112lbs live rock
70lbs of live sand

20g sump

1 Kole Yellow Eye Tang introduce last
3 PJ Cardinal will pair off rather than shoal
3 Royal Gramma (not sure if they can be in groups) I would not try a "group" in this sized tank as they are very protective of their "perceived territory"
1 Coral Hawkfish very aggressive; will eat small fish and harass tankmates. I do NOT recommend this fish
1 Coral Beauty
1 Carpenters Flasher Wrasse

Blue Reef Chromis

Green Mandarin

Whip Fin Fairy Wrasse

Comical Blenny

Ocellaris Clownfish

Royal Gramma

Clown Goby Yellow

Blue Reef Chromis

Green Mandarin very marginal in this tank size even when it matures; with a hang on refugium, it would probably work

Whip Fin Fairy Wrasse aggressive and needs a larger tank

Comical Blenny

bioload will be fine

What if I put in a Waitei Anthias and Fire Fish Purple instead of the Green Mandarin and Whip Fin Fairy Wrasse with the same fish and set up.

A purple firefish would be fine and should be introduced early on as they are relatively timid. Any anthias needs a larger tank and requires multiple feedings per day.

I am setting up a new 75 gallon reef using material from my existing 48 gallon reef that I have had for 15 years.

here is my stocking wish list: (I understand my tang will outgrow tank and I will be only his caretaker for a few years)

1. Yellow Tang OR Kole Tang
2. Foxface (How do I put my hand in the tank w/ him? I have kids?)
3. Fairy Wrasse
4/5 2 percula clowns
6 yellow goby
7 mandarin - (will wait to add him until new tank is established and will feed in addition to copods baby brine shrimp I will hatch for him)
8 blue spotted jawfish
9 Anthias - Ok this would be too many fish eh?

My intended purchases

My intended purchases

90 gallon with 30 gallon sump protein skimmer and refugium. 160 lbs live rock 2 inch sand bed. Fish only. Bought the tank used well established traded in previous livestock to afford myself some time to make changes to the setup. Live rock is being "stored" in heated saltwater cans with circulation pumps.

Looking to get

Kole Tang

pair of OC Clowns

Yellow watchman goby and pistol shrimp

2 Benggai Cardinals

Bluespot butterfly

Perhaps a Wrasse if it can be supported not sure what kind.

Thanks.

I have a Black & White Ocellaris Clownfish. only had for about a month.

Wanting to add more clown(s).

I would like to add 1 or 2 black Ice clowns or 1 or 2 Snowflake clowns.

Can I add 2 or will they become 2 if I have 3?

Thanks.

New addition question

New addition question

I have a 36g bowfront live rock sump with refugium skimmer and it's got LPS and zoa and 2 ocellaris right now... I want to add a court jester goby for looks and help with any algae that might arise. Will he be ok with the clowns and not bother them wen they become big enough to reproduce.

1. Yellow Tang OR Kole Tang Reef Central Feels that you should buy only the fish you can keep. In this case the kole tang would work and the yellow would not
2. Foxface (How do I put my hand in the tank w/ him? I have kids?) they are not aggressive, but they are venomous
3. Fairy Wrasse which species?
4/5 2 percula clowns
6 yellow goby
7 mandarin - (will wait to add him until new tank is established and will feed in addition to copods baby brine shrimp I will hatch for him)
8 blue spotted jawfish needs lower temperatures for optimal results
9 Anthias - Ok this would be too many fish eh? one anthias would work, but they do best with multiple feedings per day. More than one requires a larger tank because of their social nature
