Couple quick follow ups:

Can I have just as single blue chromis with success? one chromis is fine, groups become one

How do I sex the cardinal fish? Or do I find a couple that are already paired up and purchase them? best to find a pair; they are relatively common at LFS

I'll skip the splendid dottyback.

If I were to add one more fish, what's your favorite for a tank like this? an impossible question as our tastes and budget will vary.

Thanks Steve!

Any suggestions for a 50 Gallon reef safe are welcomed! See my signature for details.

In mid-cycle as we speak and I am completely new to the hobbie...but I am ADDICTED!
Anyway...here are my thoughts: (Be harsh and honest, my feelings won't be hurt)

1. A pair of Percula Clowns
2. A yellow tang (tank may be too small)
3. Lemmonpeel?
4. 6-line wrasse
5. Any other suggestions would be great please!

I will be intorducing corals at some point...especially LPS...they seem to catch my eye.

So I'm finally upgrading my 29 to a 90. Currently I've got:
- 2 percula clowns
- 1 yellow watchman goby w/ pistol shrimp
- 1 yellow coris wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus)
- 1 firefish
I want to add as many as possible or all of the following:
(This looks like alot when I see it writing, but I think everyone would occupy different zones and be able to have a peaceful community?)
- 1 green clown goby
- 1 blue green chromis
- 3 pajama cardinals
- 1 royal gramma
- 1 starry blenny
- 1 or 2 male flasher wrasse
- 1 tang, a kole or tomini

3. Lemmonpeel? needs a larger tank and is not reef safe
4. 6-line wrasse aggressive, will preclude many other tank mates

that will be a busy tank, but no obvious behavioral issues

Thank you for clearing the water...but obviously I am looking for suggestions at this point. I can't imagine a 50 gallon reef can only house two clownfish safely.

If it were your tank, what other fish would you add...A dwarf angel of some kind maybe? Help...and thank you!

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide suggestions or recommendations for a variety of reasons. However I am always happy to analyze any perspective stocking plan.

I'm finally ready to post my fish wish list. I'm working on my 75 gallon build, and while I'm not quite ready to purchase my fish, I'd like to go ahead and start this part of the planning process. Here are the specs: 75 gallon mixed-reef, 48x18x21 with about 2 inches of sand. I plan to have a good balance of swimming room and rock (probably about 50 lbs). Fish are important to me, so I want plenty of swimming room and open substrate, but will be sure to have plenty of hiding places in the rockwork. Also, this is kind of a peninsula-style tank, so there will be swimming room and open substrate on both sides of the tank. I have an Alpha 170 protein skimmer in a 40 gal sump. I plan to have a fuge to provide beneficial nutrients to my reef inhabitants.

My list seems long, but I only plan to have one of each of these, with the exception of one or two of them as noted. To get a better idea of how they would fill the tank, I've grouped them by "lifestyle", according to my reference book.

Active swimmers
Bartlett's Anthias
Redbelted Anthias
Reticulated Dascyllus
Flasher wrasse (haven't chosen species, but they all seem the same, behaviorally speaking)
Blackline Fang Blenny
Kole Tang

Substrate
Wheeler's shrimp goby
Randall's shrimp goby
Yellownose shrimp goby

Among rock/coral
Yellow assessor
Ocellaris clownfish (possibly a pair if not a problem with tankmates)
Coral goby (haven't chosen species, but they all seem the same, behaviorally speaking)
Cleaner goby (haven't chosen species, but they all seem the same, behaviorally speaking)

Others
Bluedot goby (group of 5)
Pajama cardinal
Firefish

I guess my main concern is the number of gobies. I have intentionally chosen the shrimp gobies that are supposed to be the most peaceful ones. My reference book even states that one of them is willing to share a burrow with other gobies. But I wanted some feedback from "the real world." My tank will be right in the middle of my living room, so I really would like to have a nice, peaceful tank without having to worry about watching too much agression.

Hi Steve. I recently acquired a single Eviota pellucida, who is a ~1.5 cm juvenile. LiveAquaria sent me two of these fish although I ordered two Eviota nigriventris. One was DOA, and the one I have now is healthy albeit shy. They are sending two E. nigriventris as replacement and I wanted to know how the two new fish will get along with my one E. pellucida. This is a 5 gallon.

37 gallon
40 lbs of live rock
Protein Skimmer SCA-301
WP-25 power head
37 gallon cleanup crew package with hermit crabs from reefcleaners
bare bottom
Eshopps RS-100 sump

Currently have:
2 blackice snowflake clowns
1 banggai cardinal
1 scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp

Going to purchase:
Mystery wrasse
Yellow Assesor Basslet

Thanks in advance!

I have a 20 gallon tank with 2 clowns, 3 turbo snails, frogspawn, zooanthid, leather, and green star polyp. Is it a good idea to add a scarlett skunk cleaner shrimp? Are they hard to care for? The tank has been setup for 3 months.

Substrate Only one shrimp/goby for long term stability

Wheeler's shrimp goby
Randall's shrimp goby
Yellownose shrimp goby

Others
Bluedot goby (group of 5) these will deplete your sand bed of beneficial organisms then starve plus they will create constant sand storms. I do NOT recommend these fish
Pajama cardinal
Firefish introduce early

Two or more fish is too much for your sized tank and the recommended tank size for one is a larger tank

It will not hurt but clownfish will not allow cleaning behavior

dottybacks are aggressive (although P. fridmani is the least so) and I do not recommend in a small tank. Damsel last. Since I do thousands of these, it would be best to resubmit entire planned list and tank size. My memory is not what it used to be.

Sorry snorvich! I was unsure how to do it. Hopefully it worked this time. Thanks for your help.

I'm upgrading my tank to a JBJ 28g 89W LED nanocube with a Aquamaxx HOB-1 skimmer.

I currently have 2 ocellaris clownfish (mated pair), 2 peppermint shrimp, 1 emerald crab, corals (GSP & Paly), hermit crabs and snails (florida ceriths, dwarf ceriths, nassariuses, 1 astrea, and nerites).

I plan to add (over time):

1 BTA
Various coral (LPS, SPS, and softies)
1 Clam (dependent on SPS's fate)
1 hi fin red banded goby or 1 yellow watchman goby
1 tiger pistol shrimp
1 purple firefish
1 royal gramma basslet
