but she is too mean! worse than any dog I've seen and my dad has been hunting ducks forever.
She'd rather chase him off than eat herself.
She took the bigger&better cave too, and chases him off from the smaller one.
I shake my finger and snap fingers at her with "BeBe, no fighting!" (I used to chase her off with water splash by my hand) and she kind of goes behind the rocks, but the Little Guy is no better off. I can't be there all the time.

You will be unable to influence the process at all. Assuming that she is a she and he is not a she all will be fine

How would I know they are ready to mate? She will become nicer? they will start "cleaning an area"
He will care for the brood anyway. both will care for the eggs, neither will care for the brood
Where will they lay the eggs - rocks or the cave? rocks
Is there anything I can do to tone down the violence... no

Can I get some cleaner shrimp perhaps? clownfish do not allow cleaning behavior

I got this tank setup recently on CL and I love it, just want her to mellow out

This is for a 55 gallon tank with a 22 gallon sump

2 b&w ocellaris clown fish
1 helfrichi firefish
1 purple firefish
1 green mandarin I know to wait a year to put this guy in needs a larger tank
1 yellow head jaw fish needs rock rubble and 3-4 inches of sand substrate
3 yellowfish damselfish aggressive; I would remove or skip
1 Tanaka's pygmy wrasse

except as noted, should be fine.

I can only answer that question with the entire planned stocking list and tank size. I do so many of these, I can never remember who is doing what. However issues do not always present themselves immediately. Sometimes they do, other times they present weeks, months down the road.

2 clowns
1 kaudern cardinal
1 foxface rabbit
1 royal gamma basslet
1 convict blenny
1 blue spotted puffer
1 vrolik wrasse
1 blue/green chromis

Do you see any potential issues with my current stocking? Further, if I were to add just one of the following angelfish (bi-color, flameback, pygmy cherub) how would you prioritize them in terms of showing the least amount of aggression. Thank you Steve.

Multiple tangs, even in this sized tank will be a bit problematic long term. Please provide a much more specific stocking plan for best analysis. (I grew up in Birmingham).

I'll axe the shrimp.

I knew the crabs would eventually eat the snails but they were mostly there for cleanup duty and startup, besides. snails are cheap.

no, bad composition on my part: least aggressive is flameback and most (with those three) is the cherub

We at reef central believe that you should only purchase fish or other animals that you can permanently home with the equipment you have.

I'll axe the shrimp.

a mandarin will never survive in this sized tank without exceptional effort . The clownfish would be fine

Steve, I promise this is my last question on this topic. Where would you place the Coral Beauty in your aggression ranking above amongst the other Dwarf Angels. My research is telling me that the Coral Beauty may also be the easiest to care for of the four angels in terms of hardiness. Thank you for your help and patience!

Coral Beauty are excellent. They are on the relatively docile side (all dwarf angels are a bit aggressive towards members of the same ecological niche), probably similar to the African Flameback. (I have a harem of them, but admittedly in a much larger tank)

Problems plural. They are considered an expert level fish because they eat constantly (copepods) and while most of them will eat supplied food, they are incredibly poor competitors for food. Because of this, we recommend a nine month mature 75 gallon tank minimum with no copepod competitors. This fish is probably the one most often purchased and then killed by aquarists through starvation.

ONLY if you are very very wealthy and and could add them every other day and even then it would be unlikely to be sufficient. Maintaining a mandarin with purchased copepods will be very, very expensive. Cheaper by far to buy the larger tank. Remember they eat constantly, like one every 10-15 seconds.
