What if I put tiger pods or some other type of live pods in the tank for 1-2 months first?

Mandarins eat a copepod about every 15 seconds so that will prelong the period before it eventually starves but will be insufficient to maintain one. Remember, they have no stomach so they must eat constantly.

Im currently setting up a reef tank, im trying to get a picture of what i want. This is the list ive come up with, inverts will be in the tank as well.
75g display, 29g sump/refugium. 60lbs live rock, will have skimmer.

- Ruby Red Dragonfish (after many months)

- Pair of clownfish (maroon or ocellaris/percula probably)

- Kole yellow eye tang or tomini tang

- White banded possum wrasse

- Butterflyfish (falcula, tear drop, or copperband)

- Yellow or blue dot jawfish

- Pygmy Angelfish

- Ruby Red Dragonfish (after many months) I am assuming you mean mandarin/dragonet

- Pair of clownfish (maroon or ocellaris/percula probably) big difference. A. ocellaris or A. percula would be fine

- Kole yellow eye tang or tomini tang

- White banded possum wrasse

- Butterflyfish (falcula, tear drop, or copperband) none are really reef safe; a copperband will compete with your mandarin for copepods so that is not desirable

- Yellow or blue dot jawfish blue dot requires cooler temperatures for long term viability

- Pygmy Angelfish not reef safe

I currently have in a 20 gallon tank:

x2 Clown Fish
x1 Yellow Wrasse
x2 Yellow-tail Damsel
x1 Fire Shrimp
x1 Sand Sea Star
x3 Turbo Snail
x1 Long Tentacle Anemone

I was thinking in one ir two royal gramma, dottybacks ir gobies

I still don't have any corals but Im planning to do it soon...

Comments?

At the moment, you are way overstocked, so adding additional fish would be a bad idea.

We are in the process of setting up our first saltwater/reef tank. Right now we have:
75 gallon tank, with a sump (20 gallons, maybe? Not sure.). A protein skimmer that we haven't actually turned on yet. 80 lb sand. About 50 lb dead rock and 20 lb live rock. And a snail, which hitchhiked in with the live rock.

The tank has been cycling for a few weeks, and we're working on our wish list. We are open to suggestions! We like both fish and invertebrates, and we haven't even started trying to figure out corals yet. Fortunately we do have an excellent LFS to ask for advice from as well.

This is what we've come up with so far. (The first two choices are, no surprise, strongly desired by our boys, ages 5 and 8...)

2 clownfish
Pac Blue Hippo Tang (Dory)
Goby and shrimp
Pom Pom Crabs
Other shrimp and/or crabs?
Cherub Pigmy Angelfish or Flame Angelfish?
Some kind of starfish?
Six Line Wrasse Fish
Blue-Green Chromis

2 clownfish
Pac Blue Hippo Tang (Dory) Unfortunatelyl this fish requires a much longer (larger) tank
Goby and shrimp
Pom Pom Crabs
Other shrimp and/or crabs?
Cherub Pigmy Angelfish or Flame Angelfish? not reef safe, but flame angel is less aggressive
Some kind of starfish? they starve to death except in very large tanks
Six Line Wrasse Fish aggressive, will preclude other fish going forward
Blue-Green Chromis

Hello. We have just been hit hard with Ich and will have to rebuild our fish population. We have a few questions regarding compatibility. Here is our intended list.

The tank size is 120 gallon FOWLR.
We have a fully functional refugium that is populated with pods

Grey Poma Angel
Bi colored Angel
Flame Angel
Moorish Idol.
Powder Blue Tang
Dragonet (Spotted Mandarin)

This would be the starting point

You have 4 grazers, two of which are largish, which will occupy the same ecological niche; may work in this sized tank, but it would be marginal. Moorish Idols are difficult fish that should be researched carefully to determine if you have the skills to manage its feeding.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, we understand the grazing. We were doing well until the Ich. Our main question is if introduced at the same time could the three Angels get along? I suspect that by the time they grow to maturity we will have upgrade to a much larger tank.

As for the Moorish we have done a ton of research and have purchased so food that we believe will help. (Rapashy) We understand that it will be a challenge however once the tank is ready (10-12 weeks fallow) we should have our water in great shape.

If you think the angels will work then what order would you recommend is the stocking of said fish. We will be QT'ing all for 10 weeks.

Unfortunately, upgrades often do not happen. If fish feel cramped in an aquarium, they tend to relieve that cramping and all your perspective grazers can be aggressive. The tang is going to be the most aggressive and should be last. The angels, assuming proper quarantine should be introduced concurrently.

Stocking list for 60 gallon cube

Stocking list for 60 gallon cube

Hi. I would like your advice on my stocking list for my 60 gallon cube 24x24x24 with a 20 gallon sump.

1- false percules
1- Midas blenny
1-watchman goby/shrimp pair
1- purple firefish
1- flame hawkfish
3- blue reef chromis

My main question is if the Midas Benny will get along with the Fishfish in this amount of space. Thanks in advance.

So I see this is where I should have posted. Lesson one of RC. READ THE STICKIES!

I have a 56 Gallon Column tank fallow right now. I have no fish. Simple set up. 30-40 lbs live rock, Seaclone 100 skimmer and 950gph powerhead. I have been throwing together some stock ideas.

I was thinking of doing a region specific tank. Mainly Fiji. This is what I have come up with.

Yellow Dwarf Angel (3" fish) or Cinnamon Clown
Black Axel Chromis (5)
Bicolor Blenny
Blue Dartfish (2)
Gold Sleeper Goby
Clown Goby

Thoughts? Ideas for additions?

Reading the stickies is always a good idea;

I spent a fair amount of time diving Fiji . . .

Yellow Dwarf Angel (3" fish) or Cinnamon Clown Cinnamon Clownfish are a medium aggressiveness clownfish; once female may make it difficult to add fish
Black Axel Chromis (5) chromis, especially in a smaller tank, are likely to end up being only one over time
Bicolor Blenny
Blue Dartfish (2)
Gold Sleeper Goby will create sand storms, and the starve to death, especially in smaller tanks
Clown Goby

Thoughts? Ideas for additions? If you were to really add ten fish, the tank would look pretty "busy"

Yeah. Funny I didn't even look at it as 10 fish. 5 of them are small though, and 3-4 of them burrowers. Maybe too many burrowers.

Ok Dump the Clown and Sleeper.

I am really sold on the Bicolor and the 2 Blue Dartfish. Probabbly gonna have to get the dart fish online.

Clown goby, maybe.

Midas Blenny?

I have always been a fan of the small group of fish though. If not Chromis, than what do you suggest? I can bend the Fiji thing if needed. I hate damsels but I have never tried the Tuxedos. Are they as bad as the 3 and 4 stripes? Midget Reef Chromis look cool as heck, but pricey! I could see 3 in the tank instead of 5, but that seems like splitting hairs there.

Again. Sorry if I can't add the cooler fish. My tank size is just odd. Right in the middle. Which makes this super tough for me. I love the Tangs and Butterfly. It would be a no brainer for me then.

Midas Blenny? nips fins of tank mates

A small group of fish will not stay a group over time, especially in this sized tank
