Hey all...currently have a small clown fish, a purple firefish, and a small lawnmower blenny in my 36g bow. Would really like to add a Helfrichi and a red firefish. I have read that they can be snippy with their own kind; does this mean red-to-red etc. or does it cross types?

Actually, this thread is only answered by Reef Central Staff

Firefish, especially in small tanks, are one only. In the short run, it works, in the long run, you end up with only one. Also, they are prolific jumpers.

Hello just starting my tank. Its 350 litres including sump will have skimmer running and refuge. Not sure on what kind of fish suitable. My only preference is a couple of clown fish. What other fish would you recommend and what is my limit. Also any advice in clean up crew would be nice thanx. Ill have around 20 to 30 kg live rock and probable a 2 inch sand bed. Any advice welcome.

Thanks

A pair of non-aggressive clownfish such as A. percula, or A. ocellaris, or any of the "designer clowns" that are morphological varieties of these would do fine. While we do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons, you can have a small variety of non-aggressive fish in this sized tank. We would be happy to evaluate any stocking list provided you resupply tank size and complete stocking that is planned.

2 x damsel fish aggressive; may preclude other less aggreessive fish

1 x royal gramma

1 x tang a Ctenochaetus tang would work, the others require larger or much larger tanks

I recommend snails of various types rather than snails and hermits since the hermits will kill the snails for their shells.

Got it. I'll stick with the purple for now. The urge to upsize is strong, so maybe then...

I've read about them jumping...haven't seen it yet. I'm picky about the hood since I've got a cat, so I have very little open area. I'll keep an eye on him during feedings.

Thanks for the input.

I posted this in the fish section but I think I have come down to a solid list.
the tank is a 65 Gallon mixed reef.

Yellow fin Angel
2 ocellaris clowns
yellow watchman goby
starry blenny
purple or Helfrichi firefish
six line wrasse

would this be to heavy ? or could I add something else more than likely smaller like a dragonet way later down the road.

they are prolific jumpers. If you have any open area, they are likely to make it out

six line wrasse this is an aggressive fish and may intimidate your firefish

bioload is fine; a six line wrasse precludes a dragonet for sure

Steve below is my previous post and suggestions by you. I almost have my wish list complete but was wanting to add a few raccoon butterflies as well. What do you think?

It has a built in sump that houses my skimmer and the wet dry bio balls. I have a sand substrate, 150 lbs of base rock in place and plan on adding 50 lbs of live rock next week to start the cycle. Im looking at this crew of course added slowly until complete.

one of the clean up crew packages (snails and small hermits)
1 Cleaner Shrimp
2 Coral Banded Shrimp can take fish; two require a bonded pair or they will kill each other
2 Emerald Crabs
1 diamond watchman goby
1 Sleeper Gold head goby will deplete your sand bed of beneficial organisms then most likely starve in the long run
2 Firefish Goby unless a bonded pair, only one will survive
1 Purple Dotty back inconsistent with firefish and with fairy and flasher wrasses; very aggressive
5 Lyretail Anthers (females)
1 Bicolor Benny
2 Clown Goby
1 Fox Face
3 Yellow Tangs difficult; may or may not work and MUST be added concurrently and the last fish added
1 Royal Gramma
2 Black and White Ocellaris Clownfish you only get ONE pair of clownfish
2 Percula Clowns
