steve, what about several male wrasse of different types such as a mc coskers, red head salon, exquisit, and a labouts? C. solorensis will lose coloration absent a female and is on the aggressive side

will male wrasse of different types get along? depends on species but with fairies, yes to most species.

after thinking about it further, thought this might be a nice option due to the brighter coloration and easier availability.
lots of people get hooked on flasher or fairy wrasses, but be aware that they do eat copepods so be careful not to combine with some of the more delicate species

always a pleasure, check back with revisions, but please refresh my memory about tank size and total stocking plan.

Thank you for your information! Will defiantly rework my list and most likely be back here for a opinion once I re-work it! Thank You again.

I have a 50 Gallon Bow with 50lbs of live rock and a 2 inch sand bed. No sump, just a HOB Reef Octopus BH1000. Currently have a Blue Sapphire Damsel and a CUC.

Looking to get the following:

2 x Ocellaris Clowns
1 x Green BTA
1 x Yellow Goby
2 x Mandarin Goby
2 x Peppermint Shrimp

And the following:

Lunar Zoos
Ricordea Mushroom
Radio Active Dragon Eye Zoos
Blue Mushroom
Candy Apple Zoos
Red Mushroom

Thoughts?

2 x Ocellaris Clowns
1 x Green BTA
1 x Yellow Goby
2 x Mandarin Goby there is no way to sustain these long term in this sized tank without exceptional effort
2 x Peppermint Shrimp be sure they are true peppermint shrimp and not camel shrimp which are not reef safe

except as noted, should be fine

And the following: this is a matter of taste; I do not believe in having mushrooms as they take over a tank

Lunar Zoos
Ricordea Mushroom
Radio Active Dragon Eye Zoos
Blue Mushroom
Candy Apple Zoos
Red Mushroom

Thoughts?

Thanks for the reply. One other question. Do you think I could safely QT both the yasha goby and orchid dottyback together in a 10 gal QT?

While P. fridmani is the least aggressive pseudochromis, I personally would not do it.

Can you tell me a little more about the difficulty I might face with the Mandarin Gobies?

Also, when you say the mushrooms will take over the tank, is that from a size standpoint? If so, can you give any indications of timeframe etc?

Mandarins have no stomach and are primarily copepod eaters as their primary food. As such they consume a copepod every 10-15 seconds. Small tanks, or tanks with multiple copepod eaters simply cannot provide sufficient copepods that are not quickly exhausted. While mandarins almost always eat supplied food (frozen PE mysis, nutramar OVA, etc), they are not able to compete for food with other fish since they are exceptionally slow and deliberate. And since they eat constantly, aquarists cannot supply constant food without fouling their tanks. Can it be done? Yes, but only with exceptional effort which the vast majority of folks are unable and/or unwilling to supply.

Outside the scope of this thread. However, mushrooms will take over any available space and have potent stings that will preclude most other corals.

gold head sleeper goby, creates sand storms and will eventually starve and flame angel
Maybe a 6 line wrasse aggressive, will limit other tank mates ( or other reef safe wrasse, open to suggestion) or a one one spot foxface.

Suggestion on what order to add them to the tank please.

always most aggressive last (tang) and wrasse first
Thanks much "

Can you please give your thoughts on flame angel and coral beauty's in a reef tank.

Also thoughts on masked rabbitfish and rabbitfish/foxfaces in general, tank size recommendations? Is a 90 gallon standard ok to house them? I keep seeing different minimums for them.

thanks again,

No dwarf angel is completely reef safe. Meaty LPS corals are most vulnerable.

The guideline for Foxface is 125 gallons and for Rabbitfish, 180 gallons. These fish, by the way, if hungry, are not reef safe. If well fed, should be fine.

thanks again,

46g bowfront, 70lbs of rock, 2" sand bed, all coral is new small LPS(mostly zoa/paly with a cpl acans) and one tiny xenia I put in last night. Inverts are 1 emerald, 2 peppermint and an array of snails.

N fish as of right now, want to start adding in the next week or two as my tank will have been up for over 2months now.

Starter fish....I want a blenny for sure, something like a green lemon, forktail or tailspot.

Then I need to decide my first pair..
clowns
chromis

Also curious what the recommended total number of fish is for this size tank if I plan on trying to stay clear of aggressive species.

what are "starter fish"? Hopefully not to cycle the tank

clowns what species?
chromis

It does not quite work that way. There is no "number", it is more a combination of fish behavior and bioload with behavior trumping bioload. Fish that eat a lot have larger bioload, larger fish eat more, etc.

gotcha, clown would be ocellaris.

Not to cycle tank, tank has been running with live rock/sand/inverts for weeks, after 4 weeks of just rock and sand, and has had coral in it for a week or two.

I also wasnt sure if certain blenny species are more/less aggressive than others. Still reading up on this but havent found anything that truely confirms it.

By "starter fish" I mean first fish introduced to the tank, my bad I know that term sometimes is used when people cycle with fish which I wouldnt do.

75g with 40g sump. Currently:
2x occelaris clown.
5x green chromis (may remove some when older).
Lyretail anthias.
Kole tang.
Mccosker wrasse.
Diamond watchman goby.

Questions:

1. Can I add additional flasher or fairy wrasse? Does it have to be all males or some male some pairs.

2. Can I add mandarian dragonets with the flasher or fairy wrasse.

3. Can I add melanarus wrasse with other wrasse? Is it reef safe?

4. Banggai cardinal.

Thanks in advance.

should be fine; some species require more tank space

there are different levels of aggressive behavior; some are mostly non-aggressive

1. Can I add additional flasher or fairy wrasse? Does it have to be all males or some male some pairs. if you add a female flasher, you will get nuptial courting

2. Can I add mandarian dragonets with the flasher or fairy wrasse. one after the tank is 9 months mature

3. Can I add melanarus wrasse with other wrasse? Is it reef safe? Halichoeres melanurus is coral safe but not invertebrate safe

4. Banggai cardinal. tank raised

Thanks in advance.
