I have a 35G cube with 40B sump, total system volume is 50 gallons. Currently have 1 lawnmower blenny, 1 molly, 1 emerald crab, various snails, no hermits. Thinking of adding a tiger pistol shrimp and from what I have heard it is not likely the lawnmower blenny will pair up with him. Was thinking of a yellow watchman goby to pair with the shrimp but not sure how the blenny and the goby will get along. Do you think the blenny will pair up with the goby or would their be hostilities? Thanks.

lawnmower blennies do not have commensal relationships with pistol shrimp

Was thinking of a yellow watchman goby to pair with the shrimp but not sure how the blenny and the goby will get along. Do you think the blenny will pair up with the goby or would their be hostilities? Thanks.

the pistol shrimp will pair with a yellow watchman goby; the blenny and goby should not interact because they are not in the same ecological niche

Hello all I am in the process of starting a 75 gallon reef. It has dry rock and dry sand and no sump for now. No skimmer as of yet but theses are the fish I am thinking about getting when it is time. I plane on keeping some zoas,lps and softies. As of now I have 216 watts of t5s over the tank. Please tell me what you think thanks.

I currently have:

1 Coral Beauty Angel

Not wanting all but these are some fish im interested in adding:
1 of the following tangs
Kole Yellow Eye Tang
Bristletooth Tomini Tang

Starry Blenny
Squareback Anthias (Possibly a small group? 3?)

Yes, they can be a bully. Other blennies are a better choice.

I am considering adding a Helfrichi firefish, but I have heard mixed things about adding it to the tank with the purple firefish already established. Do you think the two firefishes would be okay together (even though they are not being added at the same time)?

Firefish will coexist for a while; in the long run only one will survive because the dominant one will intimidate the other.

I currently have a juwel rio 125 set up for tropical fish and I want to convert it to marine. To do this I plan to remove the juwel filter box add 15kg of live rock, a juwel skimmer, marine lighting and a few power heads (keeping the juwel heater I have currently). Anything missing?


Once my tank is set up I would like to keep a pair of clowns, a tang and a few shrimp snails etc.

Obviously I would hope to keep more than this. I have heard of gobies and shrimp teaming up? Is this just specific species of goby and shrimp?

Does anyone have any suggestions of other fish to go with this stock?

Yeah I think I'm going to pass on the shrimp. Sounds cool but also horrible. My sandbed is covered with lps and I don't think it's worth taking the chance on the shrimp. I will however grab the pinkbar goby instead of the yellow prawn goby. You sir are a tank saver! Many thanks.

I just got my fish in from LA and the salinity is 1.016. My QT tank is at 1.020 and can quickly go to 1.016 to match BUT I have a few mushrooms and a huge colony of nepthia in the QT tank. Can it live below 1.020??

I hate the fact that they ship at that SG. It is riskier to raise SG for fish since that has to be done slowly, so it is desirable to match your QT SG to shipping SG. Mushrooms are pretty hardy, Nepthia, I am not sure of.

Yeah I was surprised for it to be so low. Not cool. I think the nepthia would make it but it would really stress it. I'm drip acclimating the fish like I used to do. In an hours time I will bring it up from 1.016 to 1.020. I hope everyone will be okay with it.
