please show me your t5 only sps tanks

brianbigoats - lovely corals, really like what you have done.

However, I disagree with the "which bulbs last longer" malarkey.
On reefkeeping last month, tests were done on halides.

My original halide 14K unit is running 11 hours a day for a year and a half. Three months ago, I added another unit --> identical model, and I can honestly not see any loss in the older bulb.

I used to have T5's --> 2x24w & 2x36w unit on my planted discus tank. I really had to replace those bulbs every 6 months or so as the colours were otherwise visibly yellower. Maybe it was a heat issue in the units? I dunno.

All these SPS look great, I'm a total newbie, but learning every day - thanks to you all.

jwre,
you said you started using zeo products in 95. how was your colors before hand and were you using t5s only then too?

I started Zeo in June of 96. Colors were ok but not like they are now. I used a combination of 4 x 250 Watt MH and 4 x 80 Watt T5. I switched to 16 x 54 Watt T5 only in Jan this year.
Especially the Purple Fiji bulbs of Korallen Zucht make a big difference.

when you started zeovit did the colors begin to change even using the MH lights? or did it change after the t5 changeout? just trying to figureout what had the most effect, zeovit or t5 and if using t5 without zeovit will give good colors?

The colors came with the T5. Zeo takes a couple of months before you see the difference. So I saw difference already when using the MH but only when I switched to T5 it intensified.

As a long time MH now experimenting with T5s on my prop tank I am very intrigued. I made a poor bulb selection on my 4x24 fixture and need to make a change - who sells the Fiji Purple bulbs in the US?

I'm going to save my pennies but I think I'll be swapping out the L3 Mini on my 60g display with an ATI Powermodule in the future.

jwre,
i hate to "beat a dead horse" but do you think it's possible to get the colors without zeovit and using just t5's only? have you seen any tanks with t5's and no zevit or prodibio with good colors?

I think there are quite a few here and there that have dazzling color without zeo or prodibio. Marco Haaga from Finland is a good example of that. Check out his tank !

I would also like to know if T-5's can be used in a 30in deep tank? SPS/Clams? I see quite a few large tanks from other countries only using T-5's. Any help with that?

I run T5's on my 55 growout and love them and will likely use them on another setup I am planning. If I had a 30" deep tank I would probably not use them and go with 400 W halides on some kick arse reflectors.

Jumping in late here... I'm running T-5 only on my 270-ish display... 82" x 28" tall x 32" wide.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/8476775@N05/513691479/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/226/513691479_ac95ffb4cb_o.jpg" width="1000" height="524" alt="Wide-shot of our Reef Tank, 05212007" /></a>

My photos might not show it, because I am horrible at figuring out the whole white balance thing, but the colors I've been able to keep -- top and bottom of the tank -- have been better than I ever got under 250W DE MH. I've got pinks, oranges, purples, and blues that I never got under 12000K. Tank isn't as heavily stocked as many, but I'm a "QT everything for a month" kinda guy, so I stock slowly. ;)

I'm running four fixtures, end-to-end. Two are 6 x 48" and two are 6 x 36". Each fixture is PureActinic, AquaBlue+, Actinic+, PureActinic, AquaBlue+, Actinic+. That's 1116W vs. 4 x 400W SE or 3 x 250W DE with supplementation. So, I'm running a few watts shy of what MH would cost me. The big power savings, IMHO, is that my chiller only runs about 2 hrs a day in the summer, and doesn't run at all in the winter... vs. 8-12 hrs a day on MH. At 1500W, that's a HUGE difference in my electrical bill.

Nice tanks everyone :) There's definately a sense of comradery between T5 users, heheh, Dont get us started! ;) Here's some shots of mine, some are last month.

I've been using T5's now for the past 3 and 1/2 years. Lot a trial and error since then. All these sps's are 2 years or less and grew from one and two inch frags.

That is why I'd love to use T-5's in the future. Less heat, less consumption of energy, cooler tank. Plus less money on your electric bill. =) Nice tanks everyone. I love them.
