Please show pics of your 180 tanks

jared. looks great! I like the open corner end, Very nice, Cant wait to see it up and running! The hardest part is over, now it ets fun, well, exept for all of the plumbing .

Thanks a lot people. I really like jarheads corner tank wish I would of tried harder to set that up. And cediss I think we all wish we had half your knowledge. Not this weekend but next comes the rock and live sand I deal with Dale at www.gulf-view.com the rock is $2.99 a pound and the sand is $1.69 a pound I can have it shipped to an airport in Green Bay where I work for $60.00 a hundred I think that's a pretty good deal for someone way up here in Wisconsin. But soon with Drs foster and Smith moving the livestock to Rhinelander, Wisconsin that might work out better that's about three hour away from me.

Jarhed, looks like thinks are really coming along. Once you get those valves in you be nearly ready for water! Keep us posted.

April, thanks for clarifying that. For some reason I thought you were going for an algae specimen tank, LOL!

Mako, thanks for the compliment. It is through sharing information that the greatest knowledge is gained. Teaching others teaches ourselves. I guess I learned that while teaching people how to do tanks when I worked at the LFS. I am learnig much from all of you as well. Thanks again!

Here's a picture of my 180 after 3 months:

i2ik, Thats really neat! I love the two tunnels, the fish will love those too! Is this JUST 3 months, or is this just a pic of when it was 3 months?

Thanks Cediss,

Actually, I still dont have electricity run to the room yet. I have the wire, I have two breakers, but I dont have the comfort level (yet) to install the two circuits myself. Last thing I want to do is burn the house down because I routed the wires the wrong way. I'm gonna make a go at it this weekend and the following Saturday, the HVAC guys come to install my AC vent into the room.

Jarhed! You are a trip! I'm really glad to see the progress is going so well. You really DONT want the house to burn down! LOL

:D :D

I'm close though! Hey, on that note, does anyone know if you can run a CO2 regulator that is equipped with a check valve without using a controller? I know I need to get one, but I probably should pay cash for it and let the credit card cool down for a while. That means it'll be about a month. Course, I dont even have to run the calcium reactor just yet. I'm probably going to buy some live rock and use the rest from my 40gal. The new stuff will need to cure though. I figure about 40 pounds or so to add to my existing 180 pounds of live/base rock.

BTW, say congratulations. I'm the happy new father of an RBTA clone.

jarhead, I know you should have a controller but I have been running my 5002 for almost two years without one just got keep an eye on it so it doesn't fill up with co2.

Thanks Mako,

But doesnt the check valve default to the close position? I suppose that little dial on top is to manually open it? (see how dumb I am? Never used a reactor before). :hmm4:

cedlis. have you ever used the Cyclop Eeze frozen food for your tank?

April, I hear Cyclopeze are great, but I don't think they are necessary and they are expensive. Too many other more important expensive things to buy!

i2iK, I also like those caves. They'll look more natural as the reef tank matures and you have more coral.

Jarhed, like you I'll try just about any construction project, but running electrical is another story. Actually I would do more electrical than I do, but my wife won't trust me. She's probably right! I'm getting excited for you now, the light at the end is visible!

On that CO2 topic. I've never ran one without a controller, but if I did I would set it real low, monitor pH closely at first, and consider turning it off each night. Personally I would wait until you have a controller. You won't need it right away as you said and will may cause more harm to your water chemistry than good if you don't use a controller. If you think you are a month or so away from buying it just wait it out. That my humble opinion. Unless you have a heavily stocked SPS tank, things will be fine for a while. Assuming your using the CO2 for a calcium reactor, you can alternatively just check calcium once every 7-10 days to make sure it stays balanced. I had a healthily stocked reef for years without a CO2 system and relied solely on kalkwasser and other supplements to maintain calcium and alkalinity.

April540: the tank is 3 months old, i have been using my old 33G tank water for it with the sump which was 30G and some friends gave me around 60G of used water so the cycle was faster i believe...

Cediss: yup the caves are really big and give a lot of space for my fishes to get in and out. Actually, there is more opening in the back so they could swim in ang get back another way easily.

Thanks guys for your comments!

Hi all! going out of town to do our show and earn my money for the skimmer! I am so excited now! I'll never own all the big boy toys! I'll just enjoy reading all of your tales. And add my Kalk and additives drip by drip! LOL

Cediss, Yes the Cyclopeze was very expensive, 50 for the brick, but I got the LFS to find me someone to split the block and it wasn't so bad, I have a very small yellow clown gobie and a sun polyp coral that I was mostly thinking of and also a small clam. So I thought I might give them a little extra and the mandrin likes it too. I do notice a difference in the Colt, it seems to get something out of it too. I guess that is my bit of the food chain to help out the little guys.

Mike, I want pics when you get in your rock, I think I am getting more excited than you all, you are all getting ready for the big plunge. Seeing all the new tanks from you just getting them, to the big finale has been so much fun, and if we can keep jarhed from mudding himself in his tank room or burning the house down, we will get him some water in the tank to at least put the fire out with! Just kidding with you jarhed! your doing a great job!

i2ik I wish I knew how you managed both of the tunnels, I tried one on one side and the thing just caved in. I still havent gotten in there to try and fix it. But yous are awsome. and I agree, by the time you get the corals in and growing it is going to be a real site to see, Keep us up on the progress ok?

Where has Jason been? We havent heard from him in quite a while. Maybe too much Holiday! LOL

April, not sure what your looking for, but Reef Exotics has reaaly good prices on metal halides and I have been satisfied so far with the SE 400 watt Electronic kit I bought. Was like $215 total and it looks great. Check them out below. Excellent service from Anthony!

www.acropora.net

Which one of the lighting fixtures is it that you got? I didnt see any SE in the complete lighing fixtures, did you get the retro fit kit? I dont have a hood to do the retro fit. Is the 4' fixture long enough to do the 6' tank? I have alot of the coral that dont need that much lighting, maybe put them on the sides? The lights are the next big upgrade. Or is it best to do the pendents? 1 every 2'?

April, not completely clear on your question. I got the retro-fit kit. Never bought an enclosed hood myself. If less lighting wanted you can space farther apart. My general opinion is 1 halide per each 2 square feet, but other factors important. Factors like height above water, wattage and what you are keeping in way of corals!
Personally I don't like pendants, I think that it is wasting some output due to angle of bulb in relation to surface of tank. Perpendicular less effective IMO.
