Please show your Brown to Colourful SPS transformations.

4 weeks udner leds by the way.

Yeah, I knew it was under LED's because the LED's play havoc with the camera's white balance.

That it really really good! I was thinking something more like 3 months...since these are large colonies...I assumed it would take a long time for colour to cover all the coral.

have to move them around with the led to get the color on all side of this big piece.. will be put in my main display in a few weeks.

I got this and a few other really brown SPS in a trade from a guy with high nutrient and lousy lighting in his frag tank. It hasn't done much until lately when it seems to have decided to forget about coloring up and just decided to start over. I have led lighting and have been hesitant to blast it with light so it has been off to the side. That side of the tank has a strange light spectrum that algae seems to like? With this new growth I may move it into higher light.

wow that looks great! What is the timeline on these pictures?

I don't have an exact timeline of each photo, but its August 2012 in the first photo, and September 2013 in the last photo.

Total elapsed time is 13 months to the time of the last photo ... but not too sure about the increments along the way when the photos were taken.

wow, from a frag to that beautiful colony in a little more than a year! Impressive!

Well, since I am the OP, I should post some photos :D

This is my best example of brown to coloured:

I cant find some of the other BROWN shots; but the above example should give you an idea of the BROWN. Here are the coloured shots:

I wish each transformation was coupled with some insight on what was done to make such an improvement occur....

I'm especially interested in learning how many of you have transformed, not brown corals, but light tan corals into colorful sticks....the light tan syndrome seems to plague many of my corals, especially those which should be purple...

I have experience of pale/light brown corals. Can you start a thread in the SPS forum and PM me, I will join in and hopefully others can join in too. The RC SPS forum has lots of pale SPS threads, but unfortunately most of us dont come back to the threads and details if we did fix the issue and how we fixed the issue.

This the best thread I have come across on RC. This thread has given me hope to cling on to the beautiful corals that turned brown in my tank. But the question is for how long? Presently I'm acclimatizing my corals to LED and in this process they are turning brown.

Thanks mate.

Glad you like the thread. I started it nearly two years ago for inspiration. Whatever you do, dont give up. Some corals take a long time to colour up. Others are quicker.

What I've read about browning due to changeover of lighting to LED is that as long as parameters are stable and PO4 is low, colours will return within a matter of months on most corals.

So keep on going and hopefully you too will be posting some before and after shots. :)
