I have a tricolor valida that rtn'd from a low alk swing. I saved it by cutting the branches off and sticking all of them on a plug. The acro turned brown but now has regained the purple on the tips. This happened over 1.5 months.

This thread is killing me! most of my sps are browning, losing its vibrant colors. my parameters are good and stable, so I'm stumped why its browning. what am i doing wrong here???

Look into your lighting system/specifications ...

Have you recently changed methods i.e. MH and/or T5 to LED ?

When was the last time you changed out your bulbs, etc ?

Rising nutrient levels ...

HTH you discern what is causing the browning :)

I'm running 10x 80w T5 on a 150g. 6 actinic and 6 10k and is about 6 months old. ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 2, phosphate .04, alk 8.4, ca 465, mag 1400, salinity 1.027, ph 8.2. most of my sps are placed top half of the tank, and im beginning to think its too much light, or possibly cheap bulbs. :fun5:

For the experts out there. What's the average time for a piece of of brown coral to fully color up? Given all the water parameters and lighting are in check.

FWIW, I had all my sps's up high in my tank. My monti's and some others hated it, I had my LEDs running to hot for too long. I moved many to mid levels and now I run my LEDs at 50% there capacity just during their peak (for about 2 hours.)

I'm seeing great growth and colors as a result. I also started taking a lot of time moving them up the tank, I used to glue them up after a couple of days, now I slowly march new frags up the rock over a couple of weeks. Seems to be working quite well.

This is my favorite kind of thread. I'll play too!
