Please tell me about your maintenance service

Hello
I'm thinking of trying a service to help me on weekends and cut my time in half.

Can you tell me about your service?

- do they show up on time?
- cost vs. result
- do they make a mess?
- do they clean up after themselves?
- do you trust them enough to not chaperone them?
- good personality?
- do they follow directions, or do what they feel is best without asking?

Thanks in advance.

I dread trusting my tank to someone else. I have a friend that is slightly disabled who has a service come there from a pretty reputable, well-known LFS. They hadn't cleaned out her filter sock for a while & the sump overflowed, making the tank pretty much FW. She lost most of her fish & corals & now has a bad cyano problem. That tank used to be beautiful.

I have 2 full-time jobs and can find time to service my tanks I wouldnt trust my tanks to anyone to do maintenance that I didnt know. Maintenance is part of the hobby anyway IMO.

+1, I wouldn't let anyone else maintain my tank unless I was either there or I had no other choice.

i figured he would get this kind of response from everyone here. i love working on my fish tank no matter how frustrated and busy i am. its a labor of love. i try not to say that around my girlfriend, she gets jealous.

if you want it done right, do it yourself. i know your busy, but in my opinion i don't think its worth it. good luck

I wouldn't get a service in a million years. I thaught that they were for servicing doctor's office tanks and such. Sugartooth, is this for your home tank?

Kathy, I bet there are probably a few teenagers around that could use a few extra bucks.

Just work with the kid and teach them how to maintain your tanks the way you like. You may have to be there but you can finish in a third of the time. If I lived closer to you, I'd send you my boy.

Curious, what type of work do you need them to do?

Thanks for the response. Yes, I agree I would rather do things myself.

However, it takes me approx. 20 hours each week and I'm tired. I burn through the weekends without having done much....to find Monday coming up all too soon.
I've smashed my money makers and that's because I'm trying to rush through things or I'm very tired. I think that's just idiotic if I try to push through these things and jeopardize my job.

Or, my basement looks a hot mess because I'm too tired to clean up after all tank cleaning.

I don't want someone to do it all.
I want someone to help me. I need someone who knows their way around tanks to do this with me on occassion, that's all.

Thanks flapjack! That's very much appreciated.

I think my first post was confusing.

Sorry.

I want to find out from people having used service(s) what they think of it. From the clients point of view. Since I've not considered it before, I have no idea the protocol and such.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Sellout, I need someone to assist me is pretty much what I'm looking for.

Water changes, glass cleaning, pruning algae, replacing media, wiping down tanks, possibly feeding during all of this.

I have done tank maintence & set ups before but with all my tanks now, there'd be no way I could take care of other's. Nevemind that she lives really far...

Any feedback about services used?

I'm especially interested in:

- are they on time
- do they follow directions and understand what you want
- completely follow through
- cost vs. results
