PM started 12 hours after adding PO4 remover

the clam looks almost perfect today though and had no slough(sp?)

I already have another 6 gallons that was mixed last night ready to go today and was gonna do another one or two changes the next day or two.
I put in about .3L of new carbon as well.

So what next?

try running the effluent from the po4 reactor run through another reactor with carbon then through a micron filter

Has anyone looked into other iron controlling devices in conjuncture with GFO's? For example, a while ago in the pond industry, magnets wre the fad, because they supposedly could orient the iron in the water to be unusuable by many algaes. I dont know if this is voodoo snake oil, or legit. I guess carbon would work as good as anything, though.

EAGLES- perhaps you should rethionk your phosphate surplus. While possible the "excess" phosphate can be helping certian aspects of your tank, it is just as likely it is holding them back. My vote is, limit feeding, crank the skimmer, tune the RO/DI, and get that phosphate down.

I just wanted to chime in that i'm also battling PM disease with two clams I received a little over a week ago. Yesterday I removed my Rowaphos and added a ton of carbon and did a 20% water change. I will be doing another 20% change on Saturday and i'll add more carbon as well.

One was looking terrible on Wednesday, the action of adding more carbon and doing a water change it looked better yesterday night. I added yet more carbon last night in another place in the sump, and they both look yet better today.

I will post pictures soon... very very sleepy. I am hoping I can effect a complete turnaround without a FW dip, but if it comes to that so-be-it.

If you know you have PM, dont disregard the FW dip. It will be stressful, but it is effective.

Not sure who you were talking to, but here are mine. I removed the PO4 media (ROWA) on Wednesday and did a 20% water change and added about 3 cups of GAC to the tank. Tomorrow, I will do this same routine again, tossing out all of the current carbon exchanging for new, and changing 10g of water.

You can see, the smaller one (No orange) was doing ok, but only showing slight signs on Wednesday, where the other was looking pretty bad (this had gotten bad over the course of a week.)

I think they look as if they are progressing, so i'm just going to keep changing water and carbon for now.

i hope your treatment works, you guys have me all worried now. i think your PM cam into the tank with the new clams. i don't believe the ROWAphos is to blame ( i'm not familiar with the media used by the thread starter ). i have been using ROWAphos for quite a while and haven't seen any negative effects, i run carbon 24/7 so maybe that helps.

my concern is that it just looks like they are getting better, only to have the PM reappear. the FWD can be stressful on the clam but so is weeks of fighting PM. looking at a clam after the FWD is like night and day, almost like instant relief. ( other than the stress from the FWD )

please let us know how your treatment works, it would be great if this could be reversed when caught in the early stages.
