Pod reproduction

I just bought a Red Mandarin Dragonet, my tank has plenty of pods but I would like to up the population every once in a while to keep him fat and happy. I read that the tigger pods they sell at your lfs wont reproduce in your tank. Is this true? If so what is a good alternative?

Yes, this is true. Tigriopus californicus is a cool water species and at warmer temps, their offspring tend to be all males, so the culture dies out.

Tisbe bimiensis and Pseudocyclops spp. are both smaller than "tiggers", but will indeed reproduce well at tropical temps.

I've heard that they need a steady source of phytoplankton as food, but I've also heard that they can be feed by just crushing up a few pieces of flake food? IYE? Not trying to hijack the thread but I figured the question was relevant lol.
