Pods?

How does your tank get established with pods?

Do you put them in?

Come off live rock?

Also I was researching Pods and I seen this thing

I know its a deep water pod but I am going to have to get my girlfriend with this and tell her to look out for these

:D

Come off live rock. Some people sell them separately, but IMHO that's a bit of a scam if you've got rock in your tank. They will establish themselves over time if your tank is in good shape and doesn't have any aggressive predators in it.

Luckily, they're usually not quite as. . . . um, BIG as those! Though, people do get some pretty scary hitch hikers from time to time:

I haven't seen anything like that yet but I also haven't used a red lens flash light like people have been telling me to try.

dude that just gave me the creeps.. *shivers* cut it out :p

depends on the pods as far as what you see, theres copepods (teeny) and amphipods (larger). Technically the pillbugs we see wandering around land are terrestrial isopods. The pods you posted in the above picture are a variant of marine isopods definately too large for the reef tank!

You get em from live rock, purchased corals, macro algae (chaeto, etc), and you can buy em..... if your lucky you end up with some nut like myself in a local reef club with

This goofball hobby

To be honest unless you have an immediate need for them such as a starving mandarin be patient and they'll show up, if you really want to get em goin faster feed your refugium with a shot of liquid life bio plankton or Kent phytoplex once or twice weekly. If you dont have a lot of things that feed on phyto be careful of your water quality though.

Keep in mind copepods will change behavior when it comes to light, often swarming to it and often swarming away. so long as you dont have a large number of predators to eat em they'll show up en mass.

They're definitely in there. Keep in mind that they're TIIIIINY! The red light trick works well, but sometimes you just have to train your eye to find them.
