Pond fish

Where does everyone get their fish for their ponds? I am defiantly not looking for rare and expensive koi just normal stuff

at the lfs they well pond fish, they are smaller but the typical pond fish is probably carp, or goldfish, or koi which all are int he carp family. so even 12 cent goldfish from petsmart that are used as feeder fish you can put in a pond and theyll get huge

I think its about 500 gallon very small thats why I am not looking for anything really large or crazy

how deep and long is it? i think our is about 4 feet deep or so...its goes from about 2-4 or 5 in like "step" matter...we have some decent sized koi and catfish in our pond passing about a foot or two....just gotta watch the fish cuz they grow fast

Mine is no wheres near as deep as yours I think mine is like 7 foot by 4 by like 2 foot deep. I wish it were deeper so I dint need to use heaters in the winter

do you keep the fish in them...beacuse we keep a submersable heater in ours that floats at the top to keep a small portion oif the ice melted to keep the oxygen change going

Yes I just use a small 150 watt aquarium heater near my pump then I can leave the pump on and it keeps a good amount of area from freezing (although it broke last winter hence the need for fish)

Check out a couple of the pond places and see if any of them have shubunkins. They are my favorite pond fish because they color up like koi and have long, lacy tails. They are also very hardy.

Bergen Water Gardens - very healthy fish. Or Willow Pond Aqua Farms in Canandagia. Both places have pond fish and are healthy!

i ended up going into countrymax and buying a few shubunkins and a few tiny koi. found a few people on craigslist as well so might go that route for a few more hopefully putting my next pond in next weekend well starting it

Once in awhile we grab a few feeder fish for our turtles as an enrichment treat. They all decided to give one a stay of execution and never touched it while picking all the others off. A year later and it is a beautiful grey/black koi (carp?) in our koi pond.

cool lots of great ideas i am hoping to do another small pond this weekend I have a 8 x 10 liner thats been sitting in the barn for a few years I never used so I figured I might as well use it

Koi

Koi

There is a place out by Montezuma that has nice KOI all pond bred and hardy if you have a 8x10 liner you are not going to be wintering these fish in that pond unless it is 4Ft deep.

i think all the feeder fish did was feed my frogs haha I went to country max got some nice fish. I never liked them having saltwater stuff there but now they have a few people there that seem to know there stuff and their pond fish are really nice
