Pond fish

Food for thought: .....There is a great thread here for making an algea scrubber for outdoor pond that sits outside your pond the sun acts as your light, just need a pump. Im going to be building a few of these as I have a natural clay bottom pond and is to large to really filter. For a few dollars in supplies and a pump I have nothing to loose and going to be starting this project in a few weeks.

Ok here's a couple pics from today

Spartan, Very nice selection of koi.

I am surprised more saltwater people dont have koi ponds. Koi are very friendly. Can eat out of your hands. Love the waterfall sound that most ponds have.

About 1/2 - 1/3 the depth is above ground so that the edging makes a long bench for seating along the patio. Not shown in the pic, the edging flares out wider at both ends, great for setting out for parties etc. The near edge abuts my deck so the view is excellent from there also. Before building I'd suggest try to think about vantage points and how you will get the most use out of it.

Good source of information relative to pond building/keeping is "gardenpondforum.com"; good DIY section on waterfalls and filters. Also, scanning through build threads may spur some ideas and help you decide on features for your pond. I put in a approx 2500 gallon pond last year and really like it. Built the waterfall from a 55 gallon barrel, 55 gallon bio-filter, and built a surface skimmer out of a heavy duty tote with lid. Good luck with it - I'm sure you'll have fun.

Spartan - Nice pond and Koi.
