Hello all so I am thinking of getting a few new Koi
Can anyone recommend a good place to get NICE Healthy Koi On the island? Or even places to stay away from .
Also my pond is mostly Comets now orange and white so I want more Varity
If anyone is looking for a few free comets send me a PM

Hicks nursery on Jericho Tpke in Westbury used to be worth looking at. I haven't been there in a while, though.

Thanks I may try Scherer I have not been there in a few years
I never been to Suburban Water Gardens but may give that a try it is closer to home than northport
I was in Hicks in the begining of the season and it was thin
I was going to London Landscape in massapequa but they have no selection anymore

This may seem like a silly question but..didn't you get most of those babies from me? I'ms asking because I only keep 3 koi and 1 comet in my pond and I don't believe comets will mate with Koi (that is the silly question)..if that is true then those fish are koi not comets.

btw - if anyone wants any..I probably have 40 more that have to get out of my pond. PM me if interested.

We got ours from this koi farm in Manorville: http://longislandkoi.com/

They have great fish and it makes me happy to see a successful aquaculture operation on Long Island. The owners are very nice and knowledgeable. It's a real class act.

Hey Kathy - Yes the fish are doing great Thank you again! Some of the small ones have some nice color to them but the majority of them are black .I will be moving some of my comets and ones I got fro you to my fatherinlaws pond shortly so I was looking for a few more nice size say 8" koi
If anyone is looking for babies -and some of them are about 4" Kathy has plenty . I will let others first since I got some already but may take more for my fartherinlaws if ya need to get rid of them
Thanks again Ant~

Thanks this looks well worth checking out

Surburban in Dix Hills has great fish. If you are looking for small fish his prices are not too bad. The Koi are japanese and have lots of variety. He also has some Koi that cost 10k-100k. Worth the ride just to walk around

Occupation: Watching My Pond
So how do I get a job like that ?
As much as I love my Reef and my Pond dont think I will be spending 10K-100K on livestock Wish I had the $$$ to do that thow !!

I have been out to Long Island Koi..went on pond tour there a year or two ago..amazing place! First class operation they have but what I liked best was how much they cared about the fish.

Antman..you let me know if you do want more, not a problem. I'd be very surprised if they didn't drop a new load of babies on me soon ...if they haven't already..lol I'd also expect more of the black ones to color up, I'm seeing more color on a daily basis out there as more of them are morphing into sub-adult colors. I'll assume you know that most koi babies start out as a dark color (actually learned that at LIKoi!)..so there is still a chance they will change :)

Maybe I'll post some pics later of the pond..hmmm
