Heh, I must still be missing something. Your current plan is to put the tank in the garage. I'm suggesting putting the tank in the garage. What's the difference, other than a hole in the wall you can see the tank through?

If I put the tank as an in-wall, it'll be at the head of the garage, therefore making the garage shorter and not allowing the minivan to be parked inside. Now the tank is placed against one of the garage side walls lengthwise as in some of the earlier pix. I get to park outside now since there won't be enough width to squeeze in 2 cars.

Ah, I knew there had to be something simple I was missing.:p Can't you just get her a shorter vehicle?

How are you going to do the lights? If the tank is in its final resting place it looks like you wont be able to hang the lights because it would block the garage door. Anyway it looks like it will be one sweet setup. I know I would give up my half of the garage for a tank that size.

Thanks lvpd186. The pix are actually kinda misleading. Yes, that's pretty much the final spot for the tank but there's a good 18" of clearance from the top of the tank to the garage door track. My plan is to make an open top canopy for the lights. I am thinking of using 3 250W DE bulbs in either Luminarc Minis or Lumenmax 3s supplemented with 4 6' T5HO's.

congrats on your upgrade, but is it possible to make aleast a 2 square feet hole enough for a sneak peak?

Kenny.. is that your office on the other side of that wall?

Nope, that's an exterior wall that faces the front door.

Thanks cbui2. LOL........I won't need a hole. I'll be in the garage most of the time anyways

BTW, which part of NO do you live in? I grew up in NO and left to go to college at UCLA. Have been out here ever since. My parents still lived there until Katrina flooded the house.

Avondale, LA. guess that was the deal with wifey, but a bigger tank is better then smaller one no matter where its located. i still think just a porky little hole will do the job IMO  maybe something similar to submarine specs :D . any new updates?

lol everybodys trying to put this thing in wall! Really nice pickup, thats gonna look great.

LOL..........yeah, everyone, including myself, had their own opinions. But the one that really mattered at the end was my wife's :o

cbui2 - Yes, a 300 is much better than my current 30. Now I don't have to wreck my brain trying to figure out where to put 1" frags, at least not for a while  I'll have more updates after this weekend. The plan is to cut and install the baffles in the sump. I only have time to do stuff on the weekends with a couple of little kids running around.

Man, the weekend was almost a waste as I didn't get a chance to work on the tank until Sunday night. And then 3/4 of the way through routing out the top bracing of the sump, the bearing on my flush trim bit broke and I had to wait until Monday to pick up another bit to finish it off. Anyways, here are some shots of the progress and the finished sump.

Sump before I took it to town

I still need to make a bracket to hold 2 filter socks to the left of the skimmer. Then drill the hole for the return pump and it's ready for the leak test.

Nice.. Congrats on your new tank..I just saw this thread and It looks like everyone mentioned the same things I was thinking about the placement. I cant wait to see your progress..

Thanks Eric.

Additional work that's been done since. The overflow drain plumbing will be done tonight and the system will be leak tested soon.

looking good Kenny, will you be adding some type of mat under the pump to reduce the noise level?
