porc puffer bite?

Anybody ever been bitten by their puffer? I just got an 8 inch porc about a week ago from another hobbiest. Eats like a pig. Attacks the feeding stick. I have to clean the glass soon and frankly I'm scared of him.

LOL, I had my arm in the tank plenty with him Kung. He won't bother you. Only one I had to worry about was my clown trigger, who did bite me once. Just feed him first to pacify him.

I was petting my little Porc the other other day and he got the end of my finger. I was so shocked I pulled out so fast that he went flying out of the tank. My mistake for being overconfident with my finger, but he's never messed with my arm when its in hand feeding my other inhabitants.

lol accually I was doing a water change in my qt tank last night and I had one finger in the water holding the hose in the little guy came up and bit the end of my finger. hurt like hell lol

I have a long handled scraper. YOu can keep it, it's worthless. There is only one way to get coraline off of glass, and that's a razorblade.

Thanks, Jay, for the encouragement. What a beast he is!

my suggestion is, when u put ur arm in... wiggle it... make lots of movement... so it will get scared... but some dont get scared! so be careful!

Would thick rubber reef gloves help, or could he bite right through them?
If you mean the puffer? Their teeth are flat, and made for crushing. They wont tear trough the gloves, but very large puffers can remove a finger.

the more i wiggle my hand, the more my humu trigger wants to bite it!

the key is having someone in the room with you to watch the fish when you have to keep your hand/arm in the tank for longer periods of time

his is what we do also. I have a toby that will sample anything in the tank so hubby watches and distracts him at the other end of the tank when I have to do maintenance.

I give my porcupine a big piece of shrimp or crab leg with the shell still on. It keeps him busy while I scrape algae or whatever. He's bitten my finger hard enough to cause a bruise. He could do some serious damage if he had teeth or a beak.

I survived. I found that the puff gets more aggressive when the vlamingi tang is competing with him. I threw in some Nori on a clip, and viola, no violence. I was able to clean the glass unmolested.

He did bump me once, but I think he was just cruising by. He is blind in one eye, so he runs into things from time to time.

Your porc doesn't have teeth?? That's a new one for me.

He definitely doesn't have teeth. I posted a nice picture of him in the "show off your puffer" thread, but I can't find it right now.
