Post Your Tank Photos

Thanks for the nice comments. The reef is about two years old. The system includes the 210G display area, a 70G sump/refugium, a 65G frag prop tank, a 50G water change box, and the usual accessories (Ca reactor, kalk system, chiller & backup chiller, skimmer, etc). Things are really starting to grow in nicely. I have several "coral-wars" going on right now.
Actually, I think the tank is some sort of time machine: I stand in front of it and the next thing I know it's hours later! Thanks again everyone; I'll post a few more photos later. Jay

Please do! Id like to see a couple pics of your frag tank and sump as well if you have some.

What kind of skimmer are you using? and did your corals grow out from frags or smaller colonies?

Frag tank

My son corrected me, the reef is about three years old, not two. The Ca reactor is a Korallin C-3002 and the skimmer is an H&S A250-2x1260. I will take some photos of the rest of the system; its evolution is quite interesting.
Here is a photo of the frag prop tank

In the display area, with few exceptions, none of the corals started as frags more than 2 inches or so. The big seriatopora on the right started in my tank about the size of a baseball. In the photo below, it's the coral behind the chromis. Most of the SPS had to prove their growth and color in the frag tank before moving to the display. And invariably, then the growth and colors changed. Go figure.

Im new to reefkeeping, but that looks like a tremendous amount of growth in three years to me! I can only imagine what the evolution has been like... well done on growing nearly everything from frags! your colors look awesome to me- in person I imagine they are even better.

I appreciate the info-and i like your frag tank as well, very smooth. Can you talk about what your reef is being fed?

Thanks for posting shots of your reef Ankor- your sps look great!
what are the green encrusting corals you have?

I sort of set up a new tank (( actually transferred a lot of my 29 into a 33 cube ))

Thanks for the comments! It's hard for me to comment on the growth rate, since this is my first SPS dominant tank. We have a good LFS nearby (Boardroom Aquatics), and I always wondered why my corals didn't grow as fast as theirs, so maybe it's all relative! I have photos of some of my colonies when they were frags, so this thread makes me want to go back and reminisce. I'm also noticing that some of my corals in the frag tank are getting to be more like colonies themselves. I have no idea how accurate this is, but my son and I estimate that the fastest corals grow about half the rate of a fingernail. Does that sound about right to everyone? Anyway, all that being said, there are a few that started larger than frags: The brain at lower left (tank photo from my first post) - came in that size and hasn't changed in 2 years; The largest pink seriatopora on the top left started about the size of a tangerine. Of the pair of pink and green pocilloporas in the center top, the pink started as a colony 4" in diameter and the green started as a 1" frag, and now they're almost the same size. It's weird how corals grow at different rates. Most of the LPS's have grown only slightly in 2 - 3 years, including a frog spawn, torch, elegance and galaxia.
The frag tank is younger (1 1/2 - 2 yrs). The tank was made by Glass Cages with a starphire front, and was sent to us pre-drilled for bulkheads. The shelves are just egg crate.
As far as feeding, we really don't do anything special. We used to dose "ReefBooster" weekly but kept forgetting and eventually just stopped. About once a month we put in either Reef Chili (bulkreefsupply.com) or Coral Frenzy if we remember.
We also try to keep nitrates and phosphates down, using RO/DI water, GFO, and two DIY coil denitrators. We do have a problem with silicates and boron creeping up.

I'm thrilled to find that people are interested in my tank. Thanks again,
Jay

Cool scaping Todd- thanks for the contribution. That green cap sure is growing in nicely. Where did you get those clowns- ORA? They have quite a dramatic look!

Wow Marc- your 280 gal is stunning.
That leather looks massive! along with the rest of the colonies... can you share any thoughts with us about what you think helped get your reef to where it is? obviously years of experience has a big role.. im asking about other factors.

The biggest thing is stability, and constantly trying to get those water parameters where they belong. Also, the better lighting from expensive reflectors helped significantly.

Thanks, I set that "cove" up just for an anemone. That cap is a weed. ;) The "mother" colony in my 58 is taking over the back right corner, but I really like how it is growing.

As for those clowns, they are Solomon Island Perc --- wild caught, I got them from the Diver's Den section of LA.
