Does Powder Blue Tang sleep?

Does Powder Blue Tang sleep?

I have had my Powder Blue tang for the last 5 years, and he is beautiful and as fat as a PBT can be. In my observation, I never seen him sleep. When ever I check my tank at night, he always out swimming. The other fish in my tank that does the same thing are my Marine Beta and my Copper-banded Butterfly. I rarely see my Marine Beta even at night because of his coloration. However, I can easily see my PBT patrolling the tank at night.

Do your PBT doing the same thing or is it just my fish?

I noticed the same thing with my PBT. He usually patrols the tank for a few hours after lights out. And when he does sleep, he kind of chills on a low area just outside of the big rock structures.

I rarely see him "sleeping" within the rockwork, even though there's plenty of space for him. My Chevron and Yellow Tang sleep inside the rock structures just fine.

My Pintail Fairy Wrasse also likes to swim around the tank for a couple hours after lights out, but he definitely goes in the rocks to sleep. I think maybe my Pintail and PBT are more sensitive to ambient lights. I'm not sure if they wouldn't go straight to bed if it wasn't for the lights in the room being on.

Good to know other PBT owners see the same behaviors.

Just got a 3" PBT from LA's and have him in my 20g QT treating w/Cuppermine now. Doing fine...slowly eating and hanging out amongst the PVC pipes when I check on him. Plan is to add him in 3 weeks to my main DT where I have 3 Yellow tangs currently along with a Blueface angel, Multicolor angel, Singapore angel, a Lemonpeel, and a Fiji Blue Damsel. Have two Blue tangs also currently in my other QT now at week 2 who will beat the PBT into QT if all goes as planned. Plan also is to add a Purple Tang (larger than my yellows) and then a Chevron and maybe a Kole tang. Also the lFS has a very nice 5" Sohal tang that I'd love to make my last Tang addition. I know that's a lot of tangs but figure if I add the Sohal last that should work or at least give me the best chance right?

Oh yeah tank is a 210 g reef tank with lots of open space and good amount of rock work set in atolls for privacy/territory/spacing. Some early pics..l have added quite a bit more rock work in last month or so Fingers crossed.
Interested in prior experience and opinions.

How fast does PBT grow? Very fast. Just adequate feeding in my 65 gal tank, my PBT grew from 2.5 inches emaciated full of Ich fish to 5+ inches. I moved him to my 320 DT about 3 weeks ago. That is less than 11 months. The video show him when he was just about larger than a medium Flame angel. The 1st picture was on 4/22/2018 when I first got him from Live Aquaria, an emaciated tiny fish. The last picture is how he is today on 3/15/2019 in my 320 DT at home.

what a great job of turning him around. He was in terrible shape in that first pic. I love mine. Anyone who sees my tank always comments on how beautiful the pretty blue fish is!!

Here is my fish. I think he is in the morbidly obese range and need bariatric surgery soon.

I feed the tank, 320 heavy stock, mostly wrasses with .5X1X1 cube of frozen mysis with a teaspoon of flake in the AM. Automatic feeder feed pellets about 1/2 cc of small 800 micron size pellets 4 times a day, and I put in 2 clips suspended in open water total 1.5 sheets of 10X10 inches Nori for both of the clips. I suspended the clips because I don't want the snails, abalone and sea urchin to eat the nori. It is for the fish. The invertebrates need to work for their food by eating algae growing on the rocks. All the nori are gone by the end of the da. I have a Yellow, Purple and Powder Blue tangs in my tank. Also a CBB. The rest are wrasses and 3 Ocellaris, 5 flame angels, 2 Regal angels (same size as my male flame angel).
A lot of water movement to keep peace between the wrasses. I have 4 MP60 at Max Lagoon mode for water moment. Two on each side, in addition to the return pump.
Key to my success is a a large enough tank, clean water, with a lot of water movement.
I keep on consider adding another tang for Foxface to my tank, but have not bite the bullet. My tangs are doing well, I don't want to upset the apple cart. The PBT injured his L spike the other day. The spike was permanently extended 1/2 way for a few days before it retracted. No doubt he injured trying to stabbed something with it. The Purple and the Yellow have been with me since they were quarter size, but the PBT outstripped them in growth. He is the biggest fish at about 6 inches. He was the smallest when I first got him. Purple at about 5 inches and Yellow about 4 inches.
