Powerhead needed? Is it good for H. Kuda to have some current???

I have asked this before and got mixed answers in return, BUT, is it good for the seahorse to experience some current? I was wondering if I needed to purchase a powerhead for the S.H. tank. I know that live rock needs current, so I was toying with the factof have a powerhead behind rock (hidden) so at least the rock was getting some current going through.

Do you think I should have a powerhead in the tank (H.Kuda by the way)?

I will be running a skimmer and a hangon power filter (Penguin), so some current is to be expected, BUT it is very little. I figured that maybe a small powerhead will do.

Please look at these links, and tell me what you would recommed for a 30g tank:

These Micro-Jet powerheads shoot it vertically, so I was thinking maybe I can put this behind the rock. Is vertical water flow good?

Anyways, if you all have any recommendations please let me know. Thanks once again!

cover the intake (so seahorse tails don't get caught) and direct flow at the surface or in the rocks. I like added flow, to avoid dead spots, and to oxygenate the water. flow is fine for seahorses as long as there are plenty of calm places too, so they can choose...

What do you think is better for some flow behind the rock?

I know that if I would point the powerhead upwards (flowing going up), behind the rocks in the corner of the tank, this would probably create a more balanced flow allowing for some calmer spots and also the much needed flow through the rocks.

Which is better for this application in your opinion?

you don't want a powerhead aimed DIRECTLY at the rocks, IME... the seahorses got pushed against the rock really hard with a maxi 600. I have it behind the rocks now, and no problems.

you have to figure out what you want on your own... throwing a bunch of powerhead types at us isn't going to get us to pick for you!!! I'll support getting a maxi-jet though.

well all I am asking for is people's experience with these....so I can determine which is better. I don't want to buy something that many have had problems with. Fir instance, I don't know if these Micro-Jet pumps are any good and break after a 6 months.

I am currently using Maxi-Jets in my other reef tank, but, was considering something that may give me veritical flow instead of horizontal flow, which the pumps on the top, I believe give me vertical flow. Yeah, you're right about no pointing the flow towards the rock, I would be pointing directly upfrom behind the rocks.

Thanks :)

I did have a little powerhead once... I don't remember why really... it could aim either way, as I do remember

and i don't remember much about it, which means it didn't break, or cause mad havoc... if thats the kind of info you want!!!

but, you can aim the maxi's different directions using suction cups and LR itself. Mines aimed down behind the rock, wedged in there on a few rocks...
