pox

I got my first outbreak of zoa pox in many many of years. I extrapolated all polyps that were infected as Furan is not an option for me. I also stopped C about 2-3 weeks ago and I am starting up again. I have no direct correlation between the two but it is interesting????

has there been any temperature changes (drops or highs) or any drastic lighting changes? These are what I think are the biggest contributors of pox.

I've dealt with the pox once... Good luck... Whiped out about half my tank... Of course that was before people found successfull treatments... :)

What the pic of a white bucket in there for? You were going to try & get a colony infected withe the pox & see if the VC helped them at all. What happened with that? It would be hard to believe the VC caused this.

I did put in a new therm and it was a different reading than my digital reading on my chiller -4 degrees. That might have caused the outbreak.

I am not saying that at all about C. I started up again the other night and the LFS sold that colony. It was better yesterday and the polyps that I cut off the remaining colonies seem fine. I did a large water change and will do another today. If anything the C is helping. I jumped in big time and went straight for 40ppm right off the bat and nothing went askew. I will pump it up to 60ppm for the next few days.

that is consistent with the pox i have seen... temp seems to bring it on and lack of lighting seems to make it worse. I had some zoos living with pox just fine but didnt want anything to trigger them to melt... I treated with furan and all of the "pox" turned into new heads.

They are there to make not lose money on their merchandise so I can understand.

I have a few more but not many and I will cut those polyps off tonight. I will buy some Furan tomorrow in case it persists. It is not quite that easy for me as they are all connected and I will have to rip mat in order to get them out of the tank. I am up to 65 ppm C for the next few days.

Can you mount those you pull off & treat with even higher doses of C in a seperate tank? I still don't see why your LFS sold infected corals.

Where do i get this Furan 2?

I never had had pox myself either...until yesterday.

A colony of PE's i picked up last week just about melted overnight. I am right now as we speak cutting the good polyps out which is only about 15 out of 100. I am planning on dipping in iodine and then putting in my qt tank. tossing the rest. I was afraid of this crap spreading

any suggestions??

flyyguy - petland by me has it also.... in case you want to save the 85 that you are getting ready to toss... I didn't believe how well it worked... I have treated 2 groups and both have successfully recovered. Best thing is that Furan2 is cheap!! Like 7 bucks for a package that will complete 3 treatments - 10 powder packets (each group that you treat you should do for 3days in a row and then give them a week break. I just dipped mine in RO and Furan2 for 20-25 minutes each night. Then I made sure to do a water change within the last few days of the treatment. I didnt repeat it because I was happy with the results.)

there are no petlands near me....but there is petco and petsmart.

I will call.

I honeslty dont have much hope for the few I am trying to save....as some of them are just the heads cut off as the bases looked suspect.........but I will see if I can get some furan and try.

edit: petsmart is closed and petco didnt have it

will try again tomorrow

For some reason Furan 2 is hard to get a hold of. You either have to get it from a LFS that carries it or off the net. I lost the war agains the zoa pox. It was after I made a large purchase at a LFS I bought three "ultra" frags and in two days the zoa pox came and wiped out the new frags then all my other coral got it and died but it took a long time. I used Furan 2 but I think it was just too late. The pox went away but the rest melted away. Two polyps called peaches and cream survived, it may have lost 30 +\- polyps but thw two that survived and became nobel knights. They are still living today in my 75. To the best of my knowlegde no change in temp or anything else. I dip almost everything in either Lugols solution or Seachem Reef Dip when I get them or when the polyps are not opening. There won't be a next time but I have Furan 2 on hand now and i'm ready if anything shows signs.

im seriously hoping this is confined to just the one colony. None of the other 3 frags I got on the samne shipment are showing any signs, but the afflicted ones just so happened to be right in the middle of some of my finest, and when I pulled the colony out there were flecks that dropped off.

Incidentally, what I tried to save is sitting in my qt tank and even the polyps I simply cut the heads off of are looking ok and some open completely...so crossing fingers.
