Prazi-Pro in a reef tank

Hey guys I wanted to get some feedback about dosing prazi-pro into a reef tank. I have heard and seen many people say they dose thier reef tank with success and others saying no way. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I've never dosed an entire system myself, but when I need to administer PraziPro, (If I've got a sick fish, or introduce a new fish), I always gut load brine shrimp to get the meds in the fish.

Get a helping or two of brine shrimp, and put a few drops into the bag with the brine. Let it sit for a couple hours and then feed the tank.

The brine shrimp will survive for a few days in the fridge in the solution, and when fed to the tank, the fish will devour them.

I did my whole tank a couple months ago. Didnt encounter any ill effects on fish or coral. If you look through my build thread i think i documented it in there on how much i added and stuff. Cant remember at the moment.

Thanks blackthunda! I saw it on your thread. You dosed 20% more than the recommended dosage on the bottle? I am going to be doing the same tonight. I will remove carbon and turn off skimmer and uv.

How much do you dose into the bag of brine shrimp? Depending on the amount of water or do you just throw in a capful?

I just dosed my tank last Sat. No ill effects at all except a couple of mushrooms were angry for about a day. ..crabs, snails and shrimp not affected at all. ..all corals open fine. Going to begin getting it out tonight with carbon, a water change and turning the skimmer back on.

I put enough in the bag that the water becomes cloudy/hazy. I can still see through the bag and see the shrimp swimming around

i thinks thats a very good idea, but Mr x told me it has to be done for 10 days. Is that what you guys do to rid worms.

If you are feeding it needs to be from frozen or freeze dried ...and 10 days ...Eddie just got back with bill and will call you with the info

I have used it numerous times with no ill effects other than skimmer overflows like crazy after treatment

people are using the interceptor spectrum to treat red bugs with success.. spectrum has praziquantel the same ingredient in prazi pro

Crud. ..my aquamaxx hob skimmer overflows sometimes with just a water change. ..I can't imagine what it will do tomorrow when I turn it back on. ..I did put carbon in my hob filter this afternoon and am going to do a lg. water change tomorrow ...do you think it will still overflow? ?

Yes it will overflow ....open it up and let it skim wet and rig water to just go back into the DT as it starts to slow down then over a a few hours slowly close it off so it now is not just overflowing .....sometimes its a lot quicker to start regular skimming if you just let it overflow wet for awhile ....

I let skimmer overflow for three days and it wasn't letting up. Put a cheapo air tubing valve on the venture line to the skimmer and throttled the air flow way back. Was able to mess around and get skimmer level low enough so it doesn't overflow.

mrx, what do you mean "open it up"? I have the cup as high as it can go. ..is that what you mean?

just let it overflow back into the DT it will slow down after a day or two then you can close it back up and let it skim

just open it up all the way do not throttle it back any and just let it overflow threw the drain back into the system it will only be water

Ok. ..I have the drain tube going back into the skimmer body. .. haven't turned it back on yet. .going to do a water a change first. .wish me luck.
