Preparing for eggs, or just stupid?

ok for the last...oh...week or so my clowns have been acting weird to say the least.

I guess i should start w/this..they normally will just go into their toadstool which hosts them and rub up on it and whatnot, and bury themselves w/in the polyps. Well recently they (and i'm not sure if its just one or both...havent payed attention to that yet but i will) have been sort of "digging" underneath it and the rock just behind it. They'll sort of go under the folds on the coral and rub on the rock below it.

Then there is a sort of cave just behind the toadstool...now they've been going back into that cave area and biting the rocks a ton, almost like they're trying to clean the rocks off??

So its your guys' call...prepping for eggs, or just normal clown behavior?

hm, weird :)

If they do, what do i do? Of course it would be cool to have the babies live, but i am not too prepared for much of...anything like that lol. I mean the other fish would probably eat the eggs if i left them right?

You likely won't have time to get prepared this time, but you can start researching and be ready next time. You could also give them to someone in your area that has experience.

I would go ahead and order Joyce Wilkerson's "Clownfishes" book. It tells you step by step how to raise the babies. Even if they dont spawn now, they could likely in the future and it would be good to start reading up on it. The first batch of eggs usually isn't the best and has a low survival rate just because the clowns are new to it but they do get better with time. Once they start laying, they should do it on a regular basis, like every 10 days or every 11 days, etc. Her book gets in to all that so I suggest you pick it up on Amazon(much cheaper).

clowns lay eggs on that regular of a basis?! wow i was hoping for like once a month tops lol.

I'll look into that clownfish book. Is it specifically on breeding, or it just covers that in there too?

It's got a ton of information about clownfish in general, as well as a lot of useful information on breeding. I ordered it the other day and I'm waiting for it to show up.

That book is awesome. Very detailed and what I like about it, is that its from experience and is intended for the hobbyist breeder.
