Thanks for the kind words! It's a swing check valve typically used for pools made by a company named Jandy. They come stock with a spring which helps ensure the the valve closes even if it is not mounted properly. I have removed this spring.

It certainly looks better then the sch40 checkvalves but I wonder if it will still fail eventually due to being used in a reef tank environment. Let's hope not if you are relying on it solely to prevent a flood.

Here are 2 quick pics of my plumbing. Its not as nearly as impressive as all the others but I think it came out pretty good for doing it myself. It is a 100g tank with a DIY stand, sump and I just need to get the canopy finished.

nice looking 100 gallon!! that SWCD is that a 1" or 3/4 sure looks like a 1" and what are you going to use to Drive that thing!!! i sure hope a nice pressure pump :p

Looks very nice Ibefishy.

Serge that is the 1" scwd like mine above on my 40br. Looks like he has a mag12 or 18 plumbed under there.

Thank You and you are correct evsalty, it is a mag12. I currently use a mag12 on my 55g tank with a 3/4" scwd and it creates a pretty good flow. My 3/4" scwd has been in use for over 2 years with no problems and I have never cleaned it, so I figured I would try the 1" on my 100g.

Evsalty,

Love your plumbing job. A few questions about your sump, I am about to build a 40gal sum under my 150gal. My basic plans are almost identical to what you have. What size tank are you using in that pic? Why did you choose to put the bubble trap after the fuge? Any benefit to this? Thanks for the help!

Funny you mention....I chose a Jandy check valve because you can (and have been able to for the last 15 years) buy replacement parts for them at most local pool stores. If it gets dirty, no problem, I pop off the 8 bolts holding on the clear cover and give the door a vinegar bath. The check valve will last longer than my tank does.

As far as using the check valve to prevent flooding, it is not the case with this setup. Although the check valve does prevent back flow of water through the return plumbing, the return line is also equipped with a sufficient anti-siphon hole.

The check valve was actually incorporated to be used along with the in-line flow sensor which will enable me to place a backup pump on-line remotely upon failure of the main pump, were I to be out of town.

Very nice. I like the all black. Did you paint it or order it?
I painted it using Krylon Fusion.

That sump is a 20l. The reason I put the BT after the fuge is so that there is more time for bubbles to reach the surface and pop before they even get to the BT. It is this and preferance for me as both locations work just fine.

What are you planning on having in the fuge? Any live stock? Thanks.

Looks really nice. Nice job on the stand. Gotta ask though...why not drill the back of the tank and hide those over the top returns?

If you are asking me; you wont see those once I finish the canopy and my light set up. I drilled holes in my 55g that I am using now and just didnt feel like drilling a tank again, and the holes that are already in the top fit the pvc elbows perfectly.

Guess that's a good enough reason :) Looking forward to seeing the canopy.
