Prisitine plumbing thread!

Finally, a use for a 3d printer! I love those brackets, very cool. Have you shared them online, or did you get them off of a print repository? Links?

Let me bump this interesting thread....

What size plumbing is recommended for the output of the return pump 1.5"or 1" and also what is recommended for the output to the manifolds???

Thanks in advance...i

Just out of curiosity, and the fact I've never used a 3D printer, couldn't you make a top half and have them screw together(like a clam shell design)? I would think it would look cleaner as opposed to just using zip ties.

That's a great idea. I did consider doing something like that, but decided on the zip ties for ease of access once the tank is against the wall.

This will be awesome. I feel the same way and am in the process of setting plumbing on a 118 with a Dart and OM closed loop.

Hi ChknWing,

Its loud in the sump where the drains empty. The drain line and overflow box/stand pipes are actually quiet. The tank was predrilled with 2 corner overflows. There is no noise in the overflows except for the occasional sound of sucking air in the air tube that goes into the stand pipe. I used Durso initially and am now using stand pipes that Frankie gave me. Its an end cap with holes on the underside on top of the stand pipe but there is no difference in the sound between it and the Duros.

Here is where the noise is at. Bubbling sound I think best describes it. I have put filter socks on them and that has reduced the noise some what but it still is loud and irritates my wife. :(

If its the intake, what can I do to rectify it? Thanks. :)

Hey Chris, Have you looked into Herbie's design? His method was based off of two drain holes on the bottom of tank with overflow. You would be able to a achieve full siphon and eliminate the noise at your drain outlet in the sump. Just a thought incase you weren't aware of it.

Very interesting article. The numbers may not seem like much but 12% for the same initial work on set up just using different fittings is a no brainier.

What's the best way you guys have found to anchor your PVC and flex tubing? I'm not digging them ugly black things with the nails.

I think I finally have mine done enough to share. First pic is from back of the tank. Second tank is under the stand. Mind you, I'm trying to cram all the equipment for a 120 gallon tank under a 31"x41" footprint. I'll be painting all of the PVC once complete before moving everything into the house. I'm also replacing the main pump on the bottom with a DC pump mounted inside the sump, so some of the plumbing will be removed.
