Problem with clown? Or new coloring?

I've had this little clown for over a year. Himself along with a larger female share a 120g reef with 40g sump, minimal corals.

Well over the last 6 months, he's started to mature, he's maybe 1.5 years old. And now he has these black blotches. He acts fine, super friendly, courts the female nicely. Eats like a monster.

Ideas?

I should also add, the blotches are only on the orange portions. None of the white or black has any imperfections. I've studied him for hours

Wow, thanks for the response.

Also notice that is a designer clown as well. I wonder if they exhibit that more often than the stock strain.

I've seen with snowflake clowns that they developed a blue line between the black and white. I was concerned as well because my clown turned black within a few weeks

Lol as long as it's healthy, I don't care too much. I plan on breeding them soon. Be cool to run that dark gene out in this DaVinci strain.

looks like coral stings to me which are fine, they usually go away with time

I wouldn't be too worried. My clowns have this too. They tend to rub against a large rock with corals. The coral stings tend to go away with time.

Yeah I think coral stings too, see that a bit when they are taking host in some corals, and not limited to designers
