Problem with Gyre 250

I have a pair of XF 250's on their controller in my 120DT. During routine maintenance today I noticed that one didn't seem to be running so I looked at the controller and it showed that channel B was off. Odd, I thought, so I played with the controller to make sure it was set correctly (it was). I took the gyre that was off out and cleaned it per the directions that came with it. (well, I couldn't get the inner bushings out - just how do you do that anyway???) All seemed ok, so a put it back together and tried it out. When I plugged it in to the controller, channel B came on briefly and then switched itself off again. To rule out operator error, I switched ports. Then it was channel B working just fine, channel 2 switched off.

Any ideas out there????

I did make a ticket with maxspect so perhaps they can enlighten me.....but I'm not holding my breath.

Considering how much they cost, I certainly hope it isn't broken already - I had expected to get years of service out of the pair.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I don't have a gyre, but does the impeller/cage turn freely? By your description, it sounds like the fault is following the pump, not the controller. Maybe you could not get that bushing out because it is seized?

I'm guessing that bushing part of the gyre is still the same as the 150/130. Once you get the outer cages and blades off, you should be able to grab the star shaped bushing out of the motor with needle nose pliers and pull it straight out.

Tks for the tip. I got it completely apart, cleaned it and put it back together. No encrustations of anything, no obstructions to movement of any sort. If you spin the rotors it feels like the mechanism is ratcheting. There is no visible reason for this. I've got a ticket in with Coralvue. We'll see what they have to say. I will be more than a little disappointed if it has crapped out after all of 6 weeks use.

Mine had calcium build up on the white bearing where the shaft goes in it was seized.

Good luck Bill. I hope Coralvue can take care of your problem.

I have 1 Gyre that has run fine for me (6+ months) and I got it used with some spares as it was an early one which had issues.

I also have 3 Jebao Crossflows which were bought new when they first came out. All 3 had very short life span motors (like a month). Reef Breeders sold them originally (they've since discontinued selling them) and they replaced the entire wet side of all 3 units. They have newer motors and have worked OK for about 4 months now. But I do need to be careful about reassembly. Getting the cages on 'too tight' can cause drive issues due to such low torque motors.

Coral he seems to think it's a firmware issue so I updated it per instructions and the issue persists regardless of which channel it's plugged in to. They are going to contact Maxspect to see what they have to say.

Just a quick update.

I waited a couple days for coralvue to get back to me and then contacted them again. I promptly got a reply asking for proof of purchase (TYVM MarineDepot for sending me another!!!), serial# and shipping address. Reading between the lines it tells me that I will be getting a replacement Gyre 250 shortly.

It's quite refreshing to get good, fast customer service. Thanks to Carlos at Coralvue for your help!!!

That's great news. I've had my 150 for a year now with no issues and my old 130 was solid too, so hopefully you don't have further issues. I like that Maxspect gives you extra parts too.
