Prodibio BioKit - Will start on Monday evening

Originally posted by melanotaenia why are people dosing weekly when the directions state every 15 days?

For people with larger tanks it is suggested to dose more frequently than 15 days as opposed to doubling the dose volume all at once...

hmmm so you think split the 2 week dosage for digest and optim in half and dose it weekly?
Not a bad idea, makes sense to me, I might try this.

I am merely referencing what they state on their website...

http://www.prodibio.fr

The entire principle behind this product is keeping the beneficial bacterial level up in your aquarium ecosystem... If you think you have a better chance of keeping the bacteria alive in a broken ampoule in the refrigerator, then I think you should cut it in half... I dose one ampoule BioDigest one week and another ampoule BioOptim the next... But I am using this on a 80g system... Once I decide it is worthwhile, I might try it on one of my larger systems and dose one BioDigest every other week and BioOptim Weekly... I'm not confident that once the ampoule is broken that I can keep the remaining dose active... I'm not saying I can't be convinced otherwise, I'm just saying, that untill I am convinced otherwise, I will stay on the conservative side... lol :)

I use several of each every 2 weeks, so i wouldn't need to save any half used amps, I was just referring to taking the dosage 2 amps digest and 8 amps optim and doing 1 and 4 each week instead of 2 and 8 every 2 weeks.
I'll follow that link, thanks for posting it :)

Oh, ok... lol Then I wouldn't hesitate to break up the regiment as that is what the manufacturers suggest... :)

Some of the ingredients of RB are the same as selcon..... if you made selcon super concentrated it would cost about the same though :D

Sea Urchin

Sea Urchin

A buddy suggested that place a sea urchin in the tank to clean the green stuff on the rocks. Oh my god, the urchin is cleaning the rocks. It has been clean for a week and one rock is completely clean of the green slime. I am going to place 2 more in the tank to clean it and return them when they have cleaned the rocks.

do you use the large size? at MACNA 07 they had huge vials for big tanks.

might save you some money.

I use the "Pro" amps for the optim and te reefboster.
Basically they cost $10 each, if you buy 10 small amps (same amount) it costs $13 so its a good savings if you need about 10 amps. The biggest thing is it's much faster to dose :)

Anyway I saw them at MACNA as well and talked him out of half a dozen "samples" and then finally this year they came to the US through Marine Depot.

The first Urchin pic looks like Lytechinus Variegatus the green pincushin urchin from the Caribbean. I did a lot of work with these and Tripneustes ventricosus in Jamaica as an undergrad doing population studies. The second pic isn't the same urchin it is definitely a tuxedo probably Mespilla Globulus a very common urchin in the trade.
