Profilux Current Pump Groups

In the programming guide (V611) I downloaded it states "You can program 2 (resp. 8 for ProfiLux 3) independent groups......."

However when I log into my Profilux 3.1N I can only see two current pump groups.

I use one group for my Tunze Streams and the other for a Tunze Wavebox.

The wavebox operates in an East - West direction, but since I have a spare Wavebox I would like to try running one in a North - South direction as well and I want it to be independent of the first wavebox. To do this I will need a third pump group.

How do I go about creating/loading/making visible the other 5 groups?

Thanks,

Steve

I would guess you are not using the GCC latest version?
The screen shot below is of 1.0.5.7 (OK I can't post a image here!)
But if you are using GCC latest version and you go to the extras menu, it shows Stream groups 1 to 8

I am just using the PC software that uses usb to communicate.
Doesn't GCC require a network connection? Not got that yet.

EDIT:

OK, I found that GCC works via USB also.

Went looking for a programming guide but only one I found was a version that only dealt with GCC and Mitras lamps. Do you have a link to the full programming guide for GCC?

Nope sorry 6.11 is it!

But just before you go deleting the old version of Profilux control.
Have you upgraded to the latest firmware version. If you are above Firmware 6 now, then you are alright. But anything below, you need the old control software to upgrade the firmware.

No, firmware is only 5.16 and Profilux Control is 5.1.7.1.

So I need to upgrade the software. I see it is under the file menu.

Any tips or warnings before I attempt it?

Save your settings!!! Follow the instructions to the "t". Read them very carefully as little things can make the difference between a successful FW update and having to go down the emergency flash route.

And that cat is awesome.

As Scythanith says.
I recommend you go to the profilux site and search for firmware update and read up on it.
Do not upgrade your PC software until you have done the firmware update.
I presume you are on a PC and not a Mac(They don't work to well for updates)
And best practice is to use the serial cable.
But back up your files and you will need to copy them back to the profilux(with the mismatch error message ignored) after the firmware and software updates!

Spent nearly two hours stumbling round the forum and download section last night and didn't find any step by step instructions, so assume the instructions referred to must be those that appear on screen as you go through the update process.

Laptop (Windows 8) only has USB so that will have to do. I read about using a usb to serial converter but not sure how that would help as laptop end will still be usb, irrespective of what I convert it to after that. I guess it comes down to usb at the Profilux end Vs one more link in the chain.

If you can connect with USB and not get constant error message when accessing the profilux, then it should be a stable connection you can update on.

The big thing I found was when the instructions come up.
Ensure you tick prevent security confirmation on the device! and Wait until all connected powerbars have switched before the update.

I found this stopped some of the niggly issues that seemed to occur during update.

Just make sure the connection is not disturbed(like a dog pulling on the cable at the wrong time, like mine did) otherwise you will have to go the hard route and this is a pain when everything like the serial cable, is packed away somewhere.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I had wundered about those two tick boxes and had already decided I needed to tick "Wait until all connected powerbars have switched before the update".

The only errors I get from the USB connection is if I leave ProfiluxControl on when I walk away from the laptop and stay away for a long time, like over night. If I come back within an hour or so, as far as I recall, all is OK.

No dog and cables well away from cats. I keep all the electrical equipment in a cabinet at the end of the tank and the laptop lives on top of that with the Profilux in the cabinet directy underneath.

Oh well I screwed it up myself.

Went and touched the control software while the download was running. Now have a brick.

Will bring an RS232 cable home from work or just use the one off the power board.

I assume there are instructions on what to do next.

Hmm, that was silly.

GO to the this thread, a heap of info and explains how to do it.
Works a treat as I have had to do that myself.

I found it is very time sensitive when you need to turn the unit off then on again. Took a few go's to get the upload working.

Good luck this time and don't stuff this one up as I don't know what to do if this fails?

Oh and GHL say their RS232 cable is a special one, I have not done a pin to pin continuity check on it, so can't comment on if it is or not.

The cable they use to the power board is rs232 so could use that. Have read that you can use a regular rs232 cable instead of that one.

OK good to know.
I have PAB powerboards so can't compare.
But I will do a pin to pin ring out of the GHL unit to see if it matches a standard RS232 in the weekend.

Actually I was getting mixed up with the ethernet/PAB cable. It's the PAB cable that you can use an ordinary ethernet cable in place of. I have the PAB power board also.

My Profilux did not come with a RS232 cable, only the USB. Might have to do some digging for a DB9 to DB9 cable. The pin out of yours would be useful as I might have to cut and splice a standard one.

Good to know.

Will have a go tonight.
Have put the Tunze and Aquaray controllers back in action so it is only ATO and auto dosing that are currently not happening.

OK from what I am reading, you still need the RS232 cable on the Profilux 3 but can use a serial to USB adapter to connect to the computer.

Only the 3.1 can be updated by the USB cable only?
But have a read and let us know how you get on!

I never tried just the USB cable, so maybe it will work as the others have said!
