Propagating nems.

Well I just bought a rainbow bubble tip anmeone anout 3 days ago. It seems to be doing big and pepped up nice and big. Well when can I propagate it? Can I do it right now or should I wait a while?

Nope I've actually propagated a coupel BTA"a but sadly the tank they were in crashed. But they were 2+ years old in that tank. And the tank that my current nem is in is almost 2 years old.

Oh ok, than your good to go. The reason I say a month is to let the water inside the nem to be fully exchanged with the water in the tank. Could definitely happen quicker then a month, it's the time frame I go by to be fully certain.

Even when a BTA is established, you may lose one or both halves when forced cut. Even when it's healthy, it's a risk. Much more of a risk when it's a new arrival. I've done both, lost one half, lost both halves, and had both survive. It's really a gamble. Feeling lucky?

Keep in mind that the rare morphs -- lemondrop, flametip, etc. -- are rare because they are harder to propagate. I babysat a few that were force-propagated and both halves of each ended up dying. I've read in the past that some BTAs are colonial while others are solitary. The belief is that the common ones we see splitting all the time are the colonial ones, while the rarer morphs are solitary and typically don't respond well to cutting. I agree with taylor that is really is a gamble.

Well I actually got his for like 30$ so if it does it really wouldn't hurt me to much. And is that true? That the rarer species are harder to propagate? I'm getting a lemondrop anemone but it's going into a display.
