Pseudanthias leucozonus, the white bar anthias

This is one of four specimens that arrived today in a Bali shipment. It was mixed around with some other anthias which leads me to think it was an accidental import. Good news :)

These fishes are deep water and the fact that they are caught in Bali means that more often than not, improper decompression is done and they are prone to swim bladder problems.

I hope this guy is going to be ok and not pose any problems for me.

thanks all!

About a year ago, greenwich aquaria brought in 10 pieces. the fate of all of them are not known, as i've not seen any updates.

since then the fish has been slowly trickling in small numbers but mostly ending up in japan.

found in japan, they have been recently been discovered and being collected in Bali. As you know, bali collected fishes are not as hardy and i'm not being optimistic just yet.

only time will tell if this fish will succumb to the all so common maladies that riddle improperly collected fishes.

lemon...in your experience which collection is generally hardier-bali or philipines?...by now you must have seen tons of imported fishes from both location...

hmm..

i've seen good and bad points from both, but it also depends on the supplier. but generally i would say about the same.

i don't know if the usage of cyanide is still being practiced, but most fishes that come out of Bali and philippines are still keepable. some more sensitive species probably require more luck and skill, like deep water pseudanthias and some other fishes.

with the exception of paracentropyge angels, C. colini and golden angels. i never had luck with them despite trying countless of times.

but that's not to say they're not impossible.

and well, i've seen a fair share of imported fishes from both locals, but not tons. i've only been reef-keeping for 3-4 years. so i still have much to learn and expose myself to!

day #1 update

good news! it is now feeding on frozen mysis shrimp. let's hope no decompression problem show up soon!

accidently took this shot while trying to shoot the anthias with my iphone.

but i'll just upload here for fun :)

it's my razor wrasse, Xyrichthys pentadactylus

After speaking with collectors in Bali and Indonesia... I cannot buy these or any deep water fish...

The higher cost of these fish is due to divers dying and payments to families...

I cannot support that...

AND not comdeming at alll... Just adding my 2cents to the thread... For awareness...
