Puffer problems

My Valentini Puffer died sometime last night. Found him between the acrylic shelf i use to hold my LR off the sand and my back glass. I noticed Ich on him a few hours after i added him to main desplay two days ago. Proceeded to buy 100$ worth of medications and replacement sponges. He was eating very well (decimated my fan worm population and ate every mysis i put in the tank) Really thought he'd make till i got all the stuff i needed to fix him in the mail.

Lessons learned.. buy a quarantine tank :sad1:

Sorry for the loss - Are there other fish in the DT? Are you sure there are no water quality issues? Ammonia/etc?

A new fish will be highly stressed when moving in, so if your DT is already full of parasites, they could gang up and take down a new fish fairly rapidly - but 2 days seems too fast for ich. Aside from water quality issues, I suspect velvet or brook with this timeline, unless the fish was already extremely far gone and you just couldn't see the symptoms in time.

I trusted my LFS to much. Didn't really inspect him and noticed the dots all over him a few hours after he got settled in. He was rubbing against the rocks, but eating well.

My levels are good. Had a phosphate issue a month ago but now its .04. Prior to the puffer I introduced a Pink diamond goby 2 months ago and 2 months before that two small clownfish. They've been doing great. Eating well and looking healthy. I still have all those medications/treatments coming in the mail so if my other fish start to show signs ill have something for it.

If the puffer was in the main tank you need to believe that everyone is infected now, especially if the puffer was in there for a few days.

Been checking for signs everyday. So far nothing. Ive got New life spectrum ich shield pellet food coming in the mail along with marine max and selcon. Going to use them regardless of what signs i see. Is adding another fish going to be a risk from this day forth no matter what?
