purple BTA in the diver's den from LA?

yeah I thought the one at the lfs in san antonio looked like a magnifica too. It didn't have any bubble tips and he was saying it was listed as a bubble tip by his vender. Maybe their btas are stressed magnificas:confused:

I guess the purple bta rave is over because there is still two on divers den and no one has bought them.

I was definitely tempted to order until I got an email from another vendor. A lineatus and scott's fairy wrasse had to take precedent over a BTA, even a purple one. Maybe if they stick around until next payday, I'll have to pick one up.

Seriously

Seriously

Even if these are so called purple BTAS its hue of green that is it putting out.

I think most will turn more greenish as times goes on. Also with everything that has been going on with tsumanis and storms on that side of world who knows if these are mags thats tents bubble up to create more surface area to get more light.

They might be transplanted Mags that are evolving to deal with different ocean conditions.

mine has no hint of green on them. the tips are white with dark purple pink tips, the base is a beautiful purple and the body part is grey.

I am sorry to say but that pic looks nothing like these besides the colored tentacles. Take note of the dark bumps on base of the anemone on the website. These are one of the identifying characteristics of Mags and these anemones don't seem to have them based on the pics. If they do have them then they are mags.

i'd like a positive ID please!

100% positive id as an e. quadricolor (BTA). I've been studying BTAs and magnificas for several years and I'm sure of the ID.

Not that Flighty needs any backup, but they are absolutely 100% BTA.

Now that you guys are posting pictures under normal lighting, I have see this color variety before. They are beautiful and not common, but I have seen them and I am pretty sure someone posted a pic on one of the "show us your BTA" threads several months (maybe even a year) ago. Now that I think of it the one pictured may have had a bright red base, but the tentacles were the same.

It appears that someone has stumbled across a clone field of these guys. I hope they don't clean it out completely.

And it looks like they got them before they spawned naturally which is extreemly unfortunate as far as the ocean is concerned.

It seems like the wite tips are pretty variable between anemones and even on mine only half the tips are white. I hope that doesn't go away like the colored tips on most tanked magnificas I've seen.

I agree with Flighty it is sad that they were not left to at least spawn again before being caught. I got 2 of them and will see if anything good happens between the 2.

alright, after i placed him in, my rbta shrivelled up. should i be concerned or is this his weekly purging? do btas kill each other?

I know in the past I've kept RBTAs and GBTAs together with no issues, in fact they would touch on occasion

I have RBTA, GBTA and now these in my species tank and have no problems with any of them and the new ones are touching my RBTA.

Now i want one

Now i want one

anyone wanna ship me some of those eggs or mini anemones.

I hope they get more... I contact one guy in cali now to see if he can get me one.

The other one had more pronounced bubbles. What do you think it is? I don't mean it as being rude but just curious what you think it is.

No offense taken. Something about it just doesn't completely convince me right now that they're BTAs. Either way they are beauties.

Not to burst anyone's bubble (no pun intended) but are you sure that this isn't a Ritteri Anemone - Heteractis magnifica? Ritteri's have the exact color base or foot and tentacles are the same shape/length. Either way, it's a beautiful anem. Hope you enjoy it.
