Purple dottyback compatible with chalk bass?

I had an ich outbreak in my tank two months ago and lost all but three fish: a chromis and two chalk bass. Now, I'm almost ready to start adding fish, and one of the candidates I'm looking at is a purple dottyback.

I have been dying to get one for the longest time, but I had a royal gramma (he fell victim to ich), so a purple dottyback was out of the question.

So, can I get one now, or will it pick on my chalk bass?

IME the only thing compatible with a purple dottyback is Satan himself. I'm not sure the Terminator would stand a chance in there.

My sons Dottyback "pinky" killed any small fish added to the tank and terrorized the tangs and angels for weeks before things settled down . Hard to tear down a 180g reef to catch one tiny fish......Rot in Hell "pinky"

For sure. Some of the other dottybacks are even worse. I have seen dottybacks do ok in very, very large tanks but certainly in the tank size proposed by the OP, it will not be a fun time.

I love the color. Can be kept with larger fish. Wouldn't do it here.

I have purple dottyback & a Springeri & they keep to themselves. I actually like them a lot & it seems like many non reefy people seem to catch a glimpse & they're always like whoa what's that?

I have them with six tangs a bunch of wrasses & a blue throat trigger. The Dotties were probably added close to last though. They never really picked territory though, they are always all over the place. Tank is a bit bigger though.

If you like the color of the purle dottyback an orchid dottyback is similarly colored with a lot less aggression.

I have a orchid dottyback. Awesome little fish he gets his small spot in the tanl and stick to it. Not aggressive at all.

I have a purple in my 90 and he's a good citizen but it may be because he's so well fed that his girth doesn't allow him to harass the other inhabitants.

Well my sixline wrasse is now constantly picking on my purple. So my sixline must be satan.

Funny thing is my sixline was a model citizen for two years until I got the dottyback. And my tank is packed with nanofish. Maybe he had no competition until I got the dottyback.

Sixlines are worse than dottybacks IMO, but sixlines parade around like they are a model citizen, then all of a sudden go ballistic. At last with dottybacks there is usually a warning regarding their impending aggression.
