Hi everyone

I would like to ask what you think of putting a gem tang with the purple. The purple is all ready in the fish tank, do you think its a good idea? The fish tank is 1000liter cube is this big enough for both?

All replies are great full

in a tank that big, you should be fine. The purple may shoulder the gem for a few days until he lets him know he's the boss.

I've owned both and would not recommend doing it especially if the purple is already established. Purples are pretty territorial and aggressive even if you have a large tank IMO.

I know for a fact that the gem tang will be much bigger than the purple tang. The height is a little bit taller than what I thought. Its 1.85. With this said will it change ur answers?

It should be fine if you can limit the initial aggressiveness of the purple. Their are tricks for this but with a fish as expensive as a gem, if possible, I would recommend catching the purple and moving him into a holding tank for a week while the gem gets comfortable. Then move a few rocks and reintroduce the purple

This. Any zebrasoma, once established, is very territorial. In a very long tank, perhaps, but the shorter the tank, the less likelihood of it working.

A purple and a gem is not advisable. They are both amazing and pricey fish, you dont want any fighting going on in your tank. As mentioned Zebrasoma tangs are generally aggressive with each other.

Would a 3000 liter tank do the job or the principle is the same. Bear with me guys that I'm new to this. Fot u guy's must sound stupid but ur advices will be taken in to consideration

A bigger tank would be more suitable, more swimming space for both and aggression may be diverted but there is still a chance that there may be punches thrown.

Longer tank. Gallonage (or liters) is not the defining issue.

You don't think he would be okay at 557 gallons? That would be more than triple the minimum for either fish. I understand the length issue, but it's a lot of water, with possibly a ton of liverock for hiding places.

It's interesting because he could literally set up a rock wall completely covering the middle of the tank and both sides would have more than enough for each fish. And then you'd basically be bound to say it's okay by the rules of the tang police.
