Purple Tang Shortage?

Need to get a Purple Tang into QT in the next week or so... but I can't seem to find one online.

Is there some shortage at the moment?

The Black Tang I'm getting is easy to find... the Purple not so much.
 
havent seen many for sale in the past month. im sure there will be some new red sea shipments in the near future.
 
$300!!??? Whoa! I picked mine up for $120 at a LFS and then a few weeks later saw them on sale for $90 on one of the major websites.

This was about 2-3 months ago

$99-125 seems to be the going rate locally.

Petco was selling at similar prices as well online (direct from wholesaler).

LA price is pretty high, but I'd pay it if in stock.

$200-300 is crazy, not paying much more for my Black Tang.
 
Local Petco is getting one tomorrow... might see if I can grab it before it goes into their system...

I'd say a 90-120.

I've had a Yellow in a 55 for years... probably around 3-3.5".

I don't feel it's fair for him, hopefully he'll enjoy the new tank more :)

Just don't put one in a tank too small with hopes of upgrading. Lots of times that just falls through...

I would get it from petco online and pay the extra money for shipping (they are coming from QM) or if you can get the petco to leave it in the bag for you. I wouldn't want a fish that has been in the local petco system if it could be avoided
 
They came in a huge wave from the red sea about a month or two ago. One of the LFS had about 10 or 15 of them that he sold for $115 a pop.

Not always. You could hope for quality marine but depending on location it could be a variety of other suppliers. My local petco gets fish from AP in Chicago and Wilson as well.

About a month ago a huge shipment of them came in. From what a local wholesaler has told me, another is expected soon. Dont loose hope :)
